I want to hear yours.

But first I have a shocking confession...Dh and I were never married. Well not officially. We both had some pretty screwed up childhoods and both agreed that a marriage certificate does not a marriage make. We did exchange private vows to one another on Febuary 6th 1996. We did this at midnight in a gazebo in a nearby park. It was very romantic and we both thought at the time that this is what we wanted.

Dh did not give me an engagement ring he gave me a heart locket instead. I won't go into why but I am really against wearing diamonds and he searched for two weeks for a ring and could not find one. I love my locket and wear it every day :) It was very romantic when Dh proposed he said "You hold my heart in your hands, would you wear it forever?" Gosh that makes me cry!! lol

I know this is shocking and I hated lying to you all but I was a little embarassed to tell. Dh and I changed our views after Nick was born

I cant post a picture, becuase I dont have the package thingy, but I can share my story...

We planned to go away for our 5 year dating anniversary, March 2002. Dh rented a cozy cabin in a remote area, in this neat little private resort. We had out own bbq, hot tub ect. We just spent most of the time in the hot tub outside watching the snow fall down. Saturday afternoon, he was acting all strange, and was jittery, I told him to come in the hot tub with me, and he practically bit my head off saying he didnt want to...I didnt know that he was trying to get it together to propose. He finally trapped me inside before I went back to the tub, and got down on one knee. He said a bunch of things...which for the life of me, I cant remember. I was so shocked, before I said yes, I punched him in the arm and said "what about your parents!!!" (for those who dont know, dh's parents were very against me, and had barely spoken to him for 4 of the 5 years we dated) anyways, he said they were fine with it, and I said yes. I would have said yes anyway, but I didnt want the fight to get bigger than it already was.

After that, he had planned a nice romantic meal, but I was so excited, I could barley stop myself from packing and going home then and there lol. I wanted to go tell my family and friends. We did stay the night, then raced home.

Thats my story.

Traci, Those are the rings DH and I wanted too from James Avery. I think it is a wonderful story and you should not feel bad for not telling us. DH and I were not married till our oldest was 2, so don't feel bad. I can not post our wedding bands either. Here is our story:

We did not get married till Mercedes was 2. We always knew we were gonna get married but just couldn't pick a date or if we wanted a ceremony. Then DH hurt his back and was in therapy for about a year and could not work. I was the one bringing home the bacon..lol. So we knew we could not afford a wedding. I never expected him to propose but he did on Valentines day in 1995 he gave me a crystal ring holder and when I opened the box to take the ring holder out, the engagement ring was on it and I said "what is this?", then he got on one knee..etc. My ring was just simple cause I am not big on big rings and believe me I am so cheap I would have been very mad at him if he spend alot of money on it. So then a few months later we picked out our bands and were married on May 20, 1995. Small ceremony in front of a judge with our families then we had a room reserved at our favorite chinese restaurant. My mother and aunt surprised us with the room being decorated and had a wedding cake/grooms cake/champagne for us. We were so excited. Well I never mentioned this to anyone on the board cause it just never came up but DH and I were seperated for about 2 years. When he left I just sold our bands and engagement ring. We got back together in 2000. And just this past February (on Valentines again) we bought new wedding bands together. Finally we have bands again. They are very pretty and cheap..lol. They are white gold and the set came with an engagement ring. We had always wanted the ones from James Avery but we saw these on sale at JC Penney and couldn't pass it up. We originally had wanted to try to buy the exact same kind we had before (they were gorgeous) but we can not find them anywhere. We are hoping here in near future that we can renew our vows at our church.

Ok, mine is a little nerdy because of the curcumstances.

First I must say how we met......
I was dating a guy who I met online. He and I decided to go out and bring a few friends along to be "safe".
Chris happened to be one of the friends he brought along.
We went out to a pool place that night.
Things didnt work out between me and this guy.
Later on Chris and I started dating. Then I got pregnant. So he took me out to the pool place we met at and asked me to marry him.
Nothing big, thats it. Thats our story.
No picture of the rings, just a plan gold band.

Traci,

No reason to feel bad about that. We all have our stories to tell or ones we have not told, but just because we do not do things as others feel are right does not make us better or worse then the rest.
I think it is great how you did things, you love each other and no paper will make it right or wrong.
