My son is 7 1/2 months. I've been trying for about 1 month now to try to get him to use a sippie cup (doc recomended it). All he does is play with it. Then when i put the spout in his mouth... he'll start sucking on it, he'll get the juice/formula but then he starts screaming! AGH!! How did you guys get your kids to use a sippie cup?? Any advice for a new mom? :)

My last and third child did this same thing. My ped also recommended that I just take the bottle away and only offer the cup and that he would eventually get the idea! Couldn't see doing that at such a young age. I waited until after he turned 1 and was eating more solid foods and knew that he was getting his nutrition even if he wasn't drinking very much. Finally at about 16 months he took the cup but I stopped offering him a bottle so he was forced to take the cup. Now he still won't drink from a straw. He'll play with a cup w/a straw in it and even put it in his mouth and suck on it but once he gets whatever is in the cup he gives you a look of disgust. Go figure - my other two children drank from the straw before even turning one!!!

Good luck.
