Hi Everyone, I am new here so Bear with me please. I hope I am asking the right group, if not maybe someone could direct me to the right place. Does anyone have any thoughts on the chicken pox vaccine? My children's pediatrician says he is not a big supporter of the vaccine I am confused and am not sure weather they should get it or not.....If anyone has any pros, cons, or advice I would be glad to hear it so I can clear this up in my mind thanks so much!

I hope my response didn't come across as too millitant!! I appreciate that you're trying to weigh your options and figure out what's best for your child. Chances are, with or without the vaccine your child will be fine. If you decide against it, though, be sure they have immunity going into young adult hood, whether that's exposure to the virus or vaccination. I know someone, perfectly healthy, who got CP when he was in his 30s and died of a stroke a week later!!! They can't prove it was caused by that, but that's a really big coincidence. Anyway, good luck again.

Maybe you should try the vaccine debate board.

Thanks again for your response and I didn't think it came off too millitant I was looking for opinions for or against and I got that from both sides and I will make my decision after talking some more to my husband and maybe checking on the vaccine debate board. Everyone has been really nice and understanding with me on this topic and I thank you ALL!!!

Thank you, everyone! This has been an education for me, as well. I am coming from the military, so we just gave them whatever the military said to give them. I haven't had much education on vaccines, and I didn't even know this was available and/or required for schools and daycares. I'll look into it more carefully now. Thanks again!

I'm weighing in on this late, and haven't read all the other responses, but just wanted to give you an FYI: My DH is a doctor, and we have 4 kids, and all of them have been immunized against varicella. If he thought there was much risk at all, with the knowlege base he has, he would never put his own kids in harm's way. He is an advocate of vaccination. The risk of disease outweighs the risk of vaccination in his opinion.

And BTW, you can *absolutely* get shingles as an adult if you had varicella as a child!

Hi, because this subject can be a hot topic I have chosen not to read the other responses. I respect everyone's right to choose so this is just MY opinion.

I do immunize my children but I have them what is called a delayed schedule. You can read about an example here....
