wrecking the Christmas tree?

We are going to put it up this weekend, and I'm expecting it to be a problem with her little fingers getting into everything! Dd is 18 months now. How have you avoided this with your kids? Any tips, or ideas?

I am in the same predicament as you.
This is the first Xmas I have had to deal with a baby and a tree.
With my first, we did not have one when he was a baby. But we are not going without a tree this year just because of the baby :)
I would also like to know some tips.
I have been told to put all the ornaments higher then he can reach, but I am more worried about him pulling the tree down.

I've heard that as well, about placing the ornaments higher, but wouldn't that look stupid? I'm kinda finicky when it comes to my Christmas tree, it's a genetic trait that runs in my family unfortunatly!

I can't imagine a tree all dressed up with the bottom foot or so that's bare. Short of placing a fence around it, I am at a loss for what to do!!! As far as her pulling it down, I was thinking of tying fishing line to the tree top under the topper, and ancoring it to the ceiling, so if she does pull it, it won't fall over. We had to do that one year when our puppy was little, he kept jumping at it and did knock it over a few times, but the fishing line helped.

When Matt my seven year old was little I made a ton of soft ornaments. I cut them from tracing around christmas

Hi,
My son was 15 months last year at christmas. We just kind of put our cheap ornaments at the bottom and the nicest ones towards the top. then, we really didn't mind if he occassionally took an ornament off. He never tried to actually pull the tree down though, he seemed a little afraid. Hope that helps :)

I'm worried about the same thing with my 17 mo. old! My older daughter was 16 mos. her first Christmas walking. No was the most frequent word in the house. All our ornaments were moved safely to the top. We finally put a baby gate around it and that worked! Good luck to you and me, too! LOL

yes, it does look very stupid, and that's why i decorated the whole tree this year. but guess what? every single ornament within ds reach is already lost, broken, or moved up the tree, so now it looks like that anyway, lol. since he's 2 it's more like the bottom 2 feet that are bare, making it one of the uggliest charley brown xmas trees you've ever seen, lol. so ugly or no, i'm afraid that's all i've got for you! that or wire the ornaments on really really tight and hope for the best :)
and the fishing line works great, that's what we did as well.

well I am a beleiver in telling them no a few times till they don't bother it anymore but I do know how shiny it looks to them as well,, so for my daycare baby I took half of one of those gates that make a circle for outside, they hook together? well anyway I took one half of that and put it like a half square in front of the tree so he can't get to it only can look at it,, I don't think I explained that very well,, LOL,, GL
