Our doctor's office isn't getting the vaccine...

I'm wondering how concerned I should be about my seven month old son. What has your experience been with your children when they were babies? Have they ever gotten really sick from the flu?

My dd has never had any sort of flu shot. She is 17 months old now, and has had 2 colds in her little life. (thankfully!!!!!) She has never vomited (yet!!!) but I am sure it will happen some day. The worst she ever got was a temp of 101.3, it lasted an hour or two, then went down. The whole day she had a runny nose (for a few days) a cough, and was lethargic. After 2 days she was back to herself.

Good luck to you!!!

My daughter had the flu when she was 13 mths old. She spent two days in the hospital. It was awful for her, my husband and me. I remember at that time there were a lot of children in the hospital in ICU with my daughter. They had the children in ICU to be under the nurses' constant care because ICU was so slow at the time. My daughter was one of the older babies in there.

I was able to get the flu vaccine for both kids this year through my son 15 month appointment. I had an appointment the same week as the announcement was televised about the shortage. It was very important for me to get both kids in because I am planning on helping my husband with his business this next month and the kids will be in daycare. My daughter always gets sick and my son has been sheltered with me.

Take antibacteria wash with you wherever you go and use it. Bath & Body has wipes and antibacteria wash on sale for 4 for $10.00. AND you can get a free Holiday Lotion with a coupon for you. (No I don't work there, just like to smell good). If you child get sick, call the physician right away for treatment methods.

I was very lucky. My pediatrician called all of his patients that were born premature, have asthma or have had pneumonia and scheduled these children to come in and have a flu shot. My son had pneumo when he was 2 and was born at 35 weeks with breathing issues. He is now 3 and recieved the first of the pediatric flu shot and will return in 4 weeks for the next one.

The news in our area(Maryland)stated that there should be more vaccines available in January. But it is fustrating when we hear that the inmates at some jails are recieving the injections before our children. Makes me angry. There excuse is that it would cost the state alot of money to treat an outbreak of the flu in the correctional facilities. Well, what about an outbreak in the general public? Sorry, just had to vent!!

Have a great day everyone!!

I heard that about the inmates, too. It made me so mad. If my son got the flu, and got seriously sick, I would just be so upset and not even know what to do!!!!

My children have never been ill(except the one time with Matt). First even at 7 months you can wash his hands. I am not obsessive about it but we follow the good ol hand washing rules. before any meal or snack my kids wash their hands, after coming in from the outdoors, after using the restroom, and after coming home from anywhere.

During flu season I like to put 3 cups of water on the stove with a few tablespoons of lysol and have it simmer. Just make sure you set yourself a timer so you do not forget it on the stove.

Hi, I thought I'd post and tell you I'm in the same boat as you. I have an eight month old son, and while our ped's office still has the flu vaccine (I think anyway), I go back and forth about him getting it.

My friend's ped said that the kids who are in day care take precedence over the kids whose moms stay at home so she wasn't able to get it for her eleven-month old.

My daughter is three and isn't allowed to get the vaccine b/c she's "too old" acc. to the strict restrictions we have b/c of the lack of vaccine. She's in preschool twice a week so to keep her healthy (and therefore to keep my son healthy) I make her a daily cup of freshly squeezed oj--I squeeze a half orange and put it in a teacup for her; she loves that. I also have antibac wipes available to clean her hands after school; I clean her hands after she gets in her carseat. I do this b/c she likes to hold her brother's hand while they're in the car on the way home. Then when we get in the house she washes her hands in the sink.

My daughter has never had the vaccine and hasn't been really sick ever...just minor colds here and there.
