Anyone have a child with dysfluency?

Our 6 year old son has been diagnosed by a school speech language pathologist as having disfluency. It is similar to stuttering- but instead of repeating beginning sounds, Sam will repeat the beginning few words or phrase of a sentence- usually when he's excited. We have 4 kids, so he gets interrupted a lot and older sister has a habit of finishing sentences for him.
He was checked out by an ear/nose/throat specialist and an audiologist. i'm just waiting fot the SPL's report with reccomendations. She says there are things we can do at home and if we can afford it- a few visits with another SPL would be of benefit. She says it seems to be more of a problem with formulation. He repeats the beginning phrase to hold others' attention while he formulates second half of sentence.
Any other parent dealt with this? I could really use the support.

Hi Tina
I am sorry - I haven't heard of that before but it sounds like you might be onto something with the siblings interrupting him all the time.

Hi Tina. My 18 month old has pervasive development disorder. He gets physical, occupational, and speech therapy thru Early Intervention services in our state. Therapy works wonders. My older son who is 4, has high-functioning autism. He gets physical, occupational, and LANGUAGE therapy. Some of your sons speech issues sound like some of my son's. Getting tripped up on words, trouble finishing sentences, etc. He gets all of his therapy and preschool thru the school district at no cost to us. You may want to check with your district. To my knowledge, the public school system has to offer services to special needs children. I've never heard of a district that doesn't offer speech/language therapy. The 2 of my boys have benefited so much from receving therapy. I highly recomend that you look into it after his evaluation. HTH.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I talked with the Speech patholologist on the phone and I received a package yesterday (friday). He also has a slight lisp and needs to practice with the "s" and "th" sounds. She sent me a resource package. Now I have to call around to find a SLP. With hubby's work schedule and me with no car, i need to find one who does evening or wknd appointments.
I checked with our Health Insurance through my DH work. They will cover the therapy up to $500 per year, as long as you have a doctor's prescription- so we had to go back to dr. who gladly gave us one.
Thanks again
