Hello,
New here! I am working at the moment but I am hoping to stay home next year (I am a teacher) with my two children but we need the money. I was wondering if any of you work from home and what exactly you do. I am hoping to get some ideas as to what I can do on the side to earn a little extra income. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated! I am desperate to stay home with my two beautiful daughters!!!!!

Amanda..as A teacher you might have a few options. I was a pre-k teacher and for a while I taught pre-k kids to read out of my home. I had two groups...one that arrived at 9 and stayed till 11 and one that arrived at 1 and stayed till 3. It was great and I was able to spend time with my oldest in the morning and have lunch with him in the afternoon. He took his nap at 1 o'clock and slept till 3 so it was a great situation all around.

Depending upon what kind of Teacher you are there are tons of homeschooling options. If you tell me the state you live I can send you the homeschool group info for that area. I run a homeschool group with 20 families and there is also a homeschool group near me that has 300 families...homeschool groups are very big now and can be a great source of income to you. For instance you can email these groups with your credentials offering to teach classes in any area of expertise you have. Most homeschooling families go to at least one extra class a week, sometimes at a park or recreation center for science or anything that is more fun in a group.

There are also homeschooling families that use tutoring for any subject they are not comfortable teaching. There are of course public school and private school kids needing tutoring as well. You can set your own hours for all of this, and most teachers that teach a class to homeschool kids bring their kids with them.

You could of course do in home childcare.

If you have a bachelors degree you can also do State testing for homeschoolers.

You could write curriculum!!

Just some ideas for you...hope this can help some.

Hello Traci,
Those are some great ideas. My children are 16 mos and 4 mos right now so when they are up they require all my attention, but in August they will be 21 mos and 8 mos so maybe the homeschooling classes might not be such a bad idea. I do have my BA in Elementary Education k-6, what did you mean about the State Testing... do they pay people to administer the tests? Also I live in the state of Florida and I am currently teaching 2nd grade.
Thanks for your help.

I am glad I could help out Amanda.

Every state is different but in Texas where I live homeschools are considered private schools. Some parents and teachers with BA's take advantage of this to make a little extra income. I do not know the laws in Florida, but in Texas if you have a BA you can administer state testing. In Texas it is the TAKS test, and a few others depending on grade.

I have seen teachers use churches and have the parents pay a fee to administer the tests to their children.

I also forgot to mention that when I first stayed at home I started my own business. I offered after school care to apartments in my town. I worked 4 days a week at two apartment communities, alternating days. I offered tutoring and extra activities. I did arts,
