So, I like to say I'm not supersticious, but there are some things that just seem to affect me no matter how much I try to convince myself they don't matter. For instance, I got a chain letter that threatened terrible luck, didn't send it (never do and MWAH, still love ya, you know who), and then had a ridiculous amount of returns after Christmas. Just coincidence, right?? But still...
So last night I was sitting in the drive thru at Popeye's chicken when a BLACK CAT walks right in front of my car. Not only did it walk infront of my car, it stopped, sat down in front of the car, and made eye contact with me (insert nervous laughter here). So I had a pretty crappy 2006, I'm trying to convince myself that the cat was saying good bye to me and it's actually a sign that 2007 will be better. How would you react to this and what would you think? Do you believe in things like this?
Erin

I am right there with you. There is this black cat that roams my neighborhood, and it always seems to be in my driveway! I swear the cat has brought me really bad luck, I actually saw it in the street and thought about running it over, lol. I couldnt bring myself to do that, I'm not that cruel :) It creeps me out though.
Anyway, the couple that lived in our house before we bought it divorced 6 months after moving in. So, thats strange...Im REALLY supersticious. I hope 2007 is better.....
I am supersticious to a point. I dont really believe in the black cat thing, but there are a few things that I try to avoid at all costs lol.
In the philippines, owls are a supersticious thing. When dh's mom was really sick, we left the hosptial to go home to grab something to eat, on our way home, an owl swooped infront of our truck, and dh almost had a coniption fit, he kept saying we have to go back to the hospital, and that it was a bad sign. I told him he was silly, and that it probably wasnt an owl, because I've never in my life seen an owl in our city, nor heard of them here. A few minutes later as we pulled in our driveway, the cell rang and it was sil saying mil had taken a turn for the worst, and to get back there asap. We went back, and made it in time, she passed minutes later. then, a few months later, we saw another owl, and within a short time, we got another phone call that a family member had just been kiiled in an acident.
I stay away from owls now lol. funny because those 2 owl sightings are the only ones I have ever seen in my life.
My black cat makes eye contact with me all the time, lol. Sometimes its hard not to be supersticious though.

LOL Erin! I used to have a black cat, and she brought me great luck. I even named her a witch name from Greek mythology (Hecate, who was both good and evil in Greek myths). She was a sweetheart: an adorable, purring, wonderful pet! I had the best luck of my life when I owned her. That was when I had the best grades of any semester in college (my final semester), and reunited with Michael after being split up for 3.5 years, and got engaged! I only had her for 2 years, and she died of kidney failure. I found her on the street, and I don't think her health was ever that good because she was from alleycat lineage. Sadly, she died the Summer after I graduated from college, when Michael and I were first back together. It was almost as if she'd come into my life to bring me GOOD LUCK!!
As for superstition, I think there is something to it, but not with black cats. More like with amulets and numerology, and stuff like that. Inanimate objects. I don't know what to make of Lesley's owl story, but maybe the Great Owl Spirit carries some kind of symbolism. I know the Native Americans believe stuff like that, and have totem animals and stuff. And I definitely believe in evil spirits, but I think of myself as protected by baptism and faith. I think animals are intrinsically good, however. They are more innocent than we are. I wouldn't worry about your cat. If anything, she brought you good luck!
Hugs,
Sofia
