When is it?
What kind of food are you serving?
Large area for the party?
Outdoors or indoors
How many people?
Do you have a theam?

Normally adults don't need games and such to have fun. But you can do a few things that will make a party fun.

Theam it up!

Find a theam you like then run with it. For instance the invitation should give a hint as to what to expect.

Here is a few ideas I have done in the past that have worked well.

Mexican Fiesta party. On a buffet table set out all the fixins for Mexican food. Nachos, tocos, burritos and such. Have Margaritas set up use colorful plates and napkins cups bowls, table cloths, and such. You can have a pinata for older children. Some store sell very small pinata that you can use as decoration on the table or give to each person to take home as favor, don't forget to fill it with a few sweets. People tend to loosen up around food and they have fun. Play some Mexican type music as well. If your outside hang lighs in primary colors and consider the party time more tward the evening hours.

The other idea is a pizza party. Have all the items on a buffet table. You can use small personal size pizza breads or you can make up several batches the day before the party with Bisquick. Give it an Itlaian flair with candels in bottles, wine and checker board fabric on the tables.

If you want pepople to do something you can choose games like cathch prashe, or put together a family fude type of game.

The other idea would be casino night. Serve figer foods and set up tabels for card games.

Non of these ideas are for a one yr old celebration. However since sheis just one she will not remeber it. As long as you have those photograps of the first bit of cake and soem present opeinging. I think he will forgive you for not making the party all about him.

As for the other child. Make him a basket of goodies appropiate for his age. You could tell him to bring a guest to keep him entertained and then rent a age approptiate move for the two. Give them a room and some movie type foods. They will enjoy that.
Have fun and relax everyone will have a good time if you just relax and have fun.

How about a album of him from birth up until now.
All your guests can look through it.

LM,

Jeez, you're good. Here are some answers to your questions...

When is it?
It's this Sat., 2/26 at noon

What kind of food are you serving?
Still deciding. We'll most likely cater in Mexican food.

Large area for the party?
We'll have it in the backyard if weather permits, but may have to have it in the house if it continues raining. It's been crazy here in CA!!!

Outdoors or indoors?
See above.

How many people?
35 adluts, 2 1 year olds.

Do you have a theam?
The theme is fire engines so we'll decorate accordingly.

I'm just don't want it to be too mellow, ya know. I'm not talking having a rager, but not just standing around either. I'm thinking some kind of little game like having to answer questions about my DS...his middle name, weight at birth, etc.

That's an awesome idea! I may do something like that when he's a little older and can really have fun with it. I'm saving that post!!

Okay now that I know your theme I can give you some better ideas. My 3 year old's 3rd birthday party was a firetruck party.

I will leave out the activities since your's is too little but I decorated with red and yellow table cloths and red and yellow balloons. I also found a flashing light decoration at a party store, along with some cute fake fire extinguishers.

Our main center piece was a HUGE refrigerator box laying on it's side and

At my dd's first birthday party, the adults teamed up and we played "Beyond Balderdash" while the kids played in the floor with the presents. It was pouring down raining, but we had a GREAT time, and laughed ourselves silly :o)

I wish I had good advise for you!!!

When my dd turned 1, my fil stepped in. I wanted a small gathering of close friends and family...it turned into a catered event with more than 130 people. Add on to that a couple kegs of beer, and an outdoor dance floor, with kareokee (sp?? and a live band

In the end it was fun, but ALL WE WANTED was a quite family day and we did not get it...I am VERY scared as fil is already talking about the next one....TBA!
