BTDT moms - wardrobe advice

Okay, so now that I am fully into the SAHM thing, I realize that my current wardrobe, pregnancy aside is not going to work for me. I went through my closet yesterday and essentially there is nothing left. It's tailored for work in an office, and is not at all kid friendly, nor comfortable for being on the floor with kids, going to the park, etc.

So...I need some advice from you all on putting together a new wardrobe for post pregnancy and SAHM'ing. What are some basic pieces you couldn't live without, and where do you shop? I have always shopped at Kohl's and Dress Barn, but Dress Barn doesn't really have the right type of clothes for the most part. (If any of you were size 16 or 18 that is great too, since I am not sure what size I'll be post pardum but it will likely be around there)....

Thanks for the advice ladies!

I went to the Gap and bought 3 pair of super cute jeans and went to Old Navy and bought some shirts.

I'm usually in jeans and tank top in the summer and jeans and sweater/t-shirt in winter.

Jeans, shorts, and t-shirts. With the occasional cute casual outfit thrown in when I want to feel pretty. I also keep my wadrobe very neutral so that I can mix and match liberally. I just buy cute plain colored t-shirts at Target and the Gap. Jeans I buy at the Gap because they have a nice fit and they last forever. I'm a 14/16 postpartum right now and the biggest problem I have with my previous clothes is that my hips have spread. This was my 2 child, and even though I'm only 4lbs over where I was pre-pregnancy, my hips are much wider and thus, unless the clothes have stretch to them, they aren't fitting. I suggest getting gauchos (so comfy, you can wear while preggy, and you can wear them after, they've been my saving grace) and a lot of the maternity pants and shorts with the demi band you can wear after also. Good Luck and enjoy being a SAHM!!

I love Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy. I also shop at Kohl's. I like to hit post-season sales at Banana Republic. You can find some great bargains! I also do TJ Maxx.

In the Summer I'm pretty much in shorts, tank tops and little T shirts. I even wear flip-flops out and about. I'm very casual. Today I went to have lunch with DH, so dressed up a little more. I actually put on khaki capris from Kohl's, and a sleeveless top, and sandals. I do own capris in every color.

In the Fall/Winter I wear jeans, coduroys, joggy pants with the stripe down the side (are those called yoga pants??), sweaters, hoodies, sweatshirts, boots (I LOVE boots!!). I have tons of Gap and Old Navy clothes for cold weather. I probably own 15 pairs of jeans at least, and cords in every color.

I can't tell you about the larger sizes, sorry. But I think all those stores carry plus sizes. You might want to check on line.

I was a size 16 before I got pregnant. JMHO, but if you are trying to build a wardrobe I wouldn't buy outfits but coordinating pieces instead. I'm not a fan of black clothing I prefer brown so I've actually used this as my base neutral. To this I've added a lot of blues, greens, actually some pink too. There is a great book that is fun to look at and get ideas from. It's called
"The Lucky Shopping Manual: Improving Your Wardrobe Piece by Piece"

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1592400361/sr=1-1/qid=1156384636/ref=sr_1_1/104-8169325-6853506?ie=UTF8&s=books

This book has great advice on cuts of clothing that flatter different body types.
I would go for machine washable all the way! You can definitely find clothing in a size 16 and 18 at Target, Old Navy, and Kohls.
