Hi everyone.

We can turn DS car seat around to forward face now (yeay!). Does anyone know if I should leave the car seat in the middle of the back seat or should I place it behind the passenger seat?

TIA,

Elyssa

Hi Elyssa!!

I am so happy that you asked this question and I hope that other mommies can benefit from your question as well!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE leave your DS carseat in the middle. That is the safest place for him.

One of the main reasons that people put the carseats on the sides is because it is more convenient for them to get their child out. It is NOT the safest.

This topic is a huge pet peeve of mine because 95% of parents that I see, including people that I know, have their children improperly restrained or not restrained at all.

Here are a few future carseat tips -

Your child should be restrained in a 5 POINT HARNESS carseat or booster until they are 4 years old AND 40 pounds.

Then your child should be restrained in a belt positioning booster until they reach 49 inches. It doesn't matter how old they are, but they must be at least 49 inches before using just the seatbelt. Seatbelts were made for adults NOT children that is the the reason for the height requirement.

HTH!!

Beth - SAHM to Lauren (11-98) - belt positioning booster

and Noah (8-00) - currently 5 point harness booster, but he will meet the 4 years old and 40 pound requirement next month so then he will also be in a belt positioning booster (yeah!!)

I think the middle is the best place for a child of any age.....
I dont see any harm in keeping them there if you can.
