Hey, y'all. I haven't been here much since the birth of my second child (I've been terribly busy) but I was wondering about formula costs. Has anyone done a price comparison? DD is on Enfamil Lipil right now, but DH got a raise last week and so we will only have two months left of WIC. His raise, I'm afraid, is going to seem like a cut! Anyways, I am totally willing to go to a store brand, but I don't know which one is cheaper. I thought maybe one of y'all has checked. I live in Texas, so I have Walmart, Sams, Kroger, Target, HEB (there is a Babies R Us and Toys R Us, but it's an hour away.) What do you suggest?

Thanks for all the replies. I went to HEB, a local grocery store, today (I buy their diapers, and only theirs!) and looked at their formula. It was almost exactly like Enfamil (what she's eating right now) but was nearly 25% of the price. Enfamil 1 lb is $22, Goodstart 1 lb is $16 and HEB 2 lbs is $12. Thats twice the formula for half the price! So, since I buy my diapers there I might as well buy my formula there. I can't imagine that Walmart is any cheaper.

Hi,

I used Wal-Mart formula. I believe they have a lipil form too.

Hello! I have a girlfriend who had preemie twins and used the Parent's Choice brand, she liked it fine and her kids are fine. I breastfed until my guy was 10 months and then used both Enfamil Lipil and Bright Beginnings. If you go to the bright beginnings website and fill out a little survey they will send you a HUGE! can of powdered formula for free, then they will send you tons of coupons for $3 and $4 dollars off. It's pretty inexpensive to begin with, in California it's less than Enfamil and Similac and my ped says it's good too.

In California we have a health insurance program for kids called Healthy Families. I'm not sure if it's for Californians only or if it's a national program but you might try looking into something like that for your kids at least. The cost per month varies on your income because it's not for low income families necessarily but for people like ourselves that can't afford private insurance and don't have healtchare through their work--ask your pediatrician if they know of a state program like that in Texas.

Good luck!

We do actually have a health program. It covers children only, and is called CHIPS. It's very highly regulated, though. You can't get it if you caried insurance at one time on the children. I guess the reason being they supose if you could afford insurance then you can afford insurance now. I am going to apply for it, though, just in case. Texas isn't very good about that sort of thing. I believe DH said he read in the paper that 65% of children in Houston do not have health insurance. And, it is basicly for low income families, because there is a maximum income income allowed. I know that with one child we made too much money, so now with the raise I don't think we'll qualify, even with two.
