My 11 dd has had a high fever for a few days now. It is her first fever, Iposted a couple days back about it.

Late last night when she was up screaming at 3:30 am (very unusual for her) we noticed flat red spots on her torso, especially under her arms and on the diaper area. We applied baby powder, thinking... heat rash, nothing more. Today her fever is gone, and there are now spots on her face. None of them are lumpy, they are just flat, red, small spots. Is this chicken pox? What are the signs? How do you know?

Thanks

your 11 yo dd still wears a diaper?? j/k, in poor taste i know, it just struck me as funny :)

NOW it's time to go to the dr. doesn't sound like it to me, it sounds like a simple viral exanthum (read: rash) that's very common with any virus, but better safe than sorry. are they little red pinpricks? not really raised, just little red spots? if so, it's almost definately just a viral rash. but if the are bigger, like a 1/4 or 1/8 inch big, then that sounds more like cp. cp is bigger and more raised, they kinda look like small mesquitto (sp?) bites and they itch a lot.

here's a pic, if it looks anything like this head to the dr!

ok, ok, my mistake!!!!

My 11 MONTH old dd...

lol...it's been a long few days, sorry. No wonder the others never responded, they probably thought I was a lunatic!

Anyways, they are small pinpricks, and not raised, so obviously not cp. I am glad. I guess tommorrow we will be off to the dr.

Thanks again,

Lesley

tee-hee, glad you got the joke. and kwym, after a few days with a sickie you barely remember to brush your teeth, let alone type well, lol.

sounds like a simple viral rash, doesn't cause anything other than 'worried-mommy-syndrome!"

has the fever broken? is she feeling any better? took mine to the dr today, both of the kids had strep and ds's turned into a mean sinus infection, so know how you feel :(

good luck,

My 21 month old had small, flat red spots all over, a very slight fever for a couple of days, more irrable (sp?), plus his foot was red and swollen. I took him to his ped. and she said is was mild case Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Diease (Coxsackievirus A16). Treatment was put Bendorel on this foot and keep it in the air. She gave me an antibiotic to give to him ONLY if it was better in 36-48 hours (then go back in a week). My ped. said it's starting to go around. Here a website (maybe take a look): http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/hfmd.htm

Hope it MAY help!
