Class gifts for the teacher.

Hey there. I need help. I think I have decided on a gift for the class to give their teacher at the end of the year but I need help coming up with a theme. First, these are 1st graders with half the class in a low income status. I have little cards I will send home for each child to sign and maybe write her a note in, on the front of the card is two females sitting at a table with shopping bags at their feet and they are drinking coffee/tea and there are sweet treats on the table. I really have no idea if she is a coffee or tea drinker, she is one of those teachers who doesn't really want you to hang around in class when you are there to help her unless you are doing something that can be done only in the class room. She is very standoffish and hard to get to know, I have been her room mom all year and I still am not comfortable enough to just ask questions to try and find things out about her to get to know her. Although, my dh does worh with her dh so maybe I could get him to ask her dh if she drinks teas or coffees. Hmmm...... of course he will then tell her I am fishing. LOL

I know you decided on something else, but you can do this next year, and there was someone that wanted the directions. I wish I could find the pictures I took of it. But I will answer any questions if you need more help.
Supplies needed (bare with me, I never wrote this out)It looks like alot, but it's cheap and really easy
~A few types of Artificial flowers (you can buy mixed flowers in bunches) like daises, sunflowers, anything with a simple flower.
~a roll of green floral tape
~1 package of craft clay
~ 1 Taracotta flower pot big enough for a pen per child (I'll explain more below)
~ enough Bic pens per child (each child will have one "flower")
~glue gun/glue sticks
~ Construction paper or tag board in "Spring colors"
~ head shots for each child (I always used the class photo, scanned it in on my computer then cut out the kids heads then printed)they need to be about 1 inch X 1 Inch
~String in different spring colors
~Fine tip marker
~1 packet of seeds (optional)
~hole punch
~ a small piece of clear plastic, I used the window of a toy, you know the part on the front, really thin.
Take your craft clay and mold it in the bottom of your Flower pot, kind of like a meatloaf. Take enough pens for your class and stick them cap down into the clay like you are arranging flowers, this will make the holes for the pen flowers after you bake it. After you have all your Pen Holes remove the pens and bake the clay according to package instructions then set aside
Wrap each pen with green floral tape to make the Stem, leave the cap untapped so they can be used.
On the bottom of the wrapped pen hotglue a flower head to it to complete your flower. You can add a leaf too if you'd like
Take your children’s photo and cut out just their heads, shoulders up. Hot glue them to your construction paper just enough so you have a nice mat around the photo. You don’t need much to show, you don’t want the “tag” to be very big. Punch a hole in the top and tie your string through it, Write the child’s name on the back with the year. Attach it to your Pen flower (a little dot of glue will hold it up there) You want it to hang down about a half an inch to an inch from the top of the flower. So when it’s assembled you can see the “seed packets” hanging.
Assemble all of the children’s flowers this way. Place your cooled clay on the bottom of the flowerpot and stick your “flowers” in the holes. You should end up with a bouquet of flowers with each child hanging from it.
Trace your seed packet on a piece of paper, you are gonna make your own seed packet. Cut out two. Cut out a very small window on one piece of paper. Hot glue a piece of plastic to the back of it. Hot glue three sides and right under the window, that way your seeds won’t sink to the bottom of the packet and you'll be able to see the seeds through the window. On the front with the plastic window, you can draw, write or make up a “label” saying something like, “Mrs. Jones Class of 2007, Thank you for helping us Grow”
Add the seeds so you can see them through the window, then seal it at the top. Punch two holes in the top so you can “sew” a piece of raffia through it and tie it to the pot. (make sure it’s above your glue so the seeds don’t escape.
And there ya go "Thanks for helping us grow pot" you can paint the pot ahead of time too, but I like the natural terracotta pot color.
Let me know if you have any questions.
