I just wanted to share with you a game that we do every halloween in our neighborhood. We play the boo game, here's what you need:
2 halloween buckets, sacks, or baskets.
Treats to put in them, candy, toys, books, whatever you want.
2 pieces of white paper with a simple ghost drawn on them.
2 pieces of paper with the following poem:
The phantom haunts you happily from now through halloween,
and was delivered by a friend who (hopefully) was not seen.
The spirit of the neighborhood has come to wish you well,
someone somewhere selected you to recieve this happy spell.
You must display the phantom on your door so all can spy
that you've already been haunted by this little guy.
Then fix 2 sacks with goodies like the one given to you,
ring someone's bell and leave a bag and make them happy, too.
-then you make up the baskets with the treats and the papers, take them to 2 of your favorite neighbor's houses just after dark, place them on the porch, ring the doorbell, and run! Obviously you have to live in a friendly neighborhood for this to work, lol. After you've been booed, you hang the ghost on your front door so you the rest of the neighborhood knows you've already been booed. It was a blast here last year, after a couple nights of it you go out after dark and hear the kids giggling and sneaking from house to house, there are so many people doing it. And it get's competitive, esp if you and another family want to boo the same house. It started here about 2 weeks before halloween and ended just a couple of days before.

Our neighborhood did this the last 2 years (we've been here 3, heard it hadn't in awhile). Now let me tell you, I live in the BEST neighborhood ever!
My kids get such a kick out of this. Buuuut...we don't follow the rules... we do 2 neighbors who we know, and one other family that who keeps to themselves.
Lots of fun!
Bumping this for Jessie, who asked Wendy what Booing was. Hope y'all don't mind.

Oh, I boo my duplex neighbor, she just can't hear me. lol :) There are only four families on my road, so it wouldn't get far. But my neighbor across the street put up a HUGE display. I should take a pic and post it. It's gorgeous! :) And they have spotlights on it at night, but the lights are soft green and other night-friendly colors that don't keep me up at night. :) Very kewl display! I'll take a pic in a bit and edit this and put it in.
Here's their house:
Oh! I just noticed what was missing. I thought it looked a bit off. Behind the corn stalks is supposed to be a giant inflatable monster. With the storms last night, though, I bet they took it down so it didn't fly away. Still, very festive display. :)
