Do you ever feel this way?

While Dom was at preschool this morning I was doing a lot of thinking. I was thinking about how I feel people stare about me and my clothes and the car I drive. I get dressed everyday and I do my hair and makeup, I just feel more comfortable that way. I just feel people are always judging and staring. So, then I told myself I'm crazy and overreacting and this isn't the case. I pulled into Dom's preschool and I saw a mom that has a daughter in his class. We're not like friends, just acquaintances. But she waited for me on the sidewalk, to ask me a question. She said "How do you drive your car, its sooo big?"
I was like um...I dont know, its nice to have when you have 2 carseats, its not too bad to drive. (I drive a GMC Yukon) She then went on to say she wrecked her van and they gave her a SUV to drive and she hated it, blah blah blah. At that moment I was like wow, my thoughts are confirmed. Maybe she was making small talk or whatever, but why did she wait for me to say that. It just irks me for some odd reason.

Aw, I'm sorry Kate. As someone who unintentionally sticks her feet in her mouth, maybe she really was just trying to make some sort of connection with you, and bring it up from more than casual aquaintences to semi-friends?? We women are notorious complain-as-bonding creatures. Maybe she figured that you would have some advice on manuvering the vehicle?? Or something in common to nag about? Or maybe she was just being mean in which case I'm sorry that was the start of your day :-(

Don't worry what other people think! As long as you feel good about yourself, that's all that matters. We don't drive great cars (both of ours are paid off and it's nice to have no car payments) but I do make it a point to look nice (but appropriate) any time I drop by the school or leave the house for anywhere but the grocery store. It does tend to attract glances, esp from those who don't take the time that I do, but that doesn't bother me. And for the most part I live in a like minded community. Most people drive the big suv's and dress the part (even those who probably can't afford it!). And Kate's probably right, she may have been just trying (quite awkwardly) to make conversation.

Kate, I hope she wasn't trying to be mean. It is hard to tell without actually hearing her voice and seeing body language.

As for myself I am notoriously oblivious to looks, and things...lol It is not uncommon for a friend to say "Didn't you SEE that guy!", or "Wow, look at that car." I have to be honest and say those things just do not appeal to me. I could care less what people are driving or wearing. I think I "look" with my heart first :)

However I am a big reader and know
