Ya know we went on last friday for 18 month shots and I asked about the flu shot. I have asthma and it's always recommended but they don't always have them at the military clinics. So anyway, I asked and he said now they recommend if there is a high risk person in the family that ALL family members get the shot. Makes sense really. If one person gets it then the chances go up for the high risk person.
I don't know if that was a military thing they just started or what...it wasn't that way last year. It could just be the clinic here too but you might want to ask your Dr. about it.
me, nope. I won't even get one this year even though I am 8 1/2 months pregnant. DH is a diabetic & gets one. Ours girl do too. I just have not had the chance to get them in there yet. Our youngest has asthma & I get one for the oldest just because.
Howdy, y'all. :) We used to get one for free from the base clinic (mandatory, actually, for Alex and the kiddos). This year, though, I'm not sure what to do. (No more comprehensive health care.) :( Buuut, WI has a great program to cover the kids for shots, and maybe they include the flu shot? I have to call and check. I'm not too worried about getting one for myself, but the kiddos really should have it, I think. Just mho. :)
Where I live, Ontario Canada- the flu shot is covered by provincial health plan. So it is free. My husband and I both get it as do our 4 children.
My husband and I both used to work in a hostel for homeless men. We got it at work. And it made a huge difference. Also for the kids. YOu can do it to be selfish (who wants to get really sick and end up in hospital?) or you can do it for unselfish reasons. The more people who are vaccinated- the less severe the flu outbreak for everyone in your community- particularly the very young, the very old and the very ill.
My youngest is 3.5 and she has had it every year! I too have a heart condition and my kids and I have asthma. We are prone to chest infections and pneumonia. My hubby used to always be off with the flu. since getting the shot we have had some years when not one of us (6 in our household) have gotten the flu and a couple of years when it was very mild case only. Flu can be serious and lead to other illnesses.
It is impossible to get the flu from the flu shot. They use antibodies, not the actual flu virus. Some people have already caught the flu or had a bad cold that coincides with time of flu shot.
We get the flu shot.....Tot has to have it due to her asthma.....even colds trigger asthma attacks....I have NO DESIRE to even know what the flu could do!!!!
I believe the age for getting them is 6mons and older......I could be incorrect!!! SO whoever wonders...check with you Ped. if you want one for your child.
I missed getting Mikes this last week...cause of of the Headache from you know where......(I thought it Tuesday....on Thursday....) crazy huh?
Therefore..I will be on the phone, first thing in the morning with the Dr. office......(I live to be put on hold).....
I used to get one free at work and my OB gave me one last year. There's a supply and demand issue at my clinic. The baby is going in for his second in the seriew on Tuesday, I'm hoping they'll have enough for DH, DSS and I too.
