Don't know what to do.....

A couple of weeks ago, we had a bad thunderstorm, that included high winds. Molly witnessed the whole thing and saw our patio furniture get destroyed, her little tikes picnic table blow off the patio, dh's gas grill got shoved off the patio, etc. Ever since then, she is literally terrified of the wind. Yesterday we had her 6th birthday party outside. It was warm and breezy. She literally spent almost the enitre time worrying/crying about everything getting blown away and lost or broken. She ruined her day, because by the end, dh was fed up with the crying (nothing stopped her - everyone tried) and his mom had been driving him nuts, too. So, he ended up yelling at her and putting her in her room. Sigh. She has spent the entire day today asking about tornadoes, and will the roof come off, etc (it is a perfectly nice sunny day today - not a cloud in the sky). She asks right away in the morning if there is supposed to be a storm that day. DH sat her down last night after everyone left and explained to her, that if it was too dangerous, we wouldn't let her be outside. And, if something got broken or lost we would easily be able to fix or replace it. I just don't know what to do. The child is obsessing and even keeps herself awake. She wanted to know if we would wake her up in the middle of the night if there was a bad storm, etc. Please help! Do any of you have a child with a gigantic fear like this? She worries alot (like me), but this is a bit excessive. It makes me worry about her.

Thanks,
Wendy

Is there any way you can speak to someone who could help you explain this to her.
I tried looking up something on explaining natural disasters to children, but did not come up with anything.
Good luck.

Big hugs to your dd!

I don't know, can you try and make it funny? Maybe get a fan and pretend to go camping in a tent (use a sheet) and have fun in the tent while the wind blows.

You might consider some professional help if this keeps going on. I hope you can help her resolve this!
