OK, so catch this. FIL came up to put together dd's swingset with dh tonight. He'd been telling us all about it, but there was no way we could have pictured this. He's a carpenter and engineer who actually built his own house and he's designed this swingset himself with no kit. This sucker's HUGE!!! OMG, some of the neighbors are gonna be soooo ticked off. Where the roof on the tallest platform peaks it will be over 15 ft tall!!! It has 2 slides, one 10 ft bumpy and one even larger curly tube, two swingset arms (one with 4 swing spots, and one with a rope to climb and a big tire swing) a clubhouse, a second platform and a picnic table and tunnel under it all. It has a rock wall, a plank, AND a ladder AND monkey bars. All the wood has been sanded down perfectly smooth with rounded edges and the surfaces they will be sitting and the monkey bars will be made from a plastic composite (like they make comosite decks out of) so it will be splinter proof. Comparable swingset we've seen sold in kits and assembled professionally have cost $10,000 at least, no kidding. There's no way to stop it now that it's started. The kids are going to love it. My biggest problem is going to be keeping all the neigbor kids out of my back yard now. Holy Cow! Only part of it is done, but already it really blows my mind.

Shhhh! Don't let my girls hear you, they have been begging for one for a long time!!
GOod luck keeping the neighborhood kids out of your yard. LOL We have just a regular rainbow set and I have at least 4 or 5 kids in my backyard everyday. I really don't mind it much though- because my kids don't bug me to go to other peoples houses and I know where they are all the time. ;)
We have a LOT of kids in our neighborhood, most are nice kids, but the ones directly next door are total pagans. They have NO clue how to act. It's kind of sad, really, because the parents should do better at socializing them. The boy is Nikki's age and is always getting in trouble. He's been suspended from the bus twice this year and is bullied himself regularly. His sister is the twins age and quite highstrung. You'd be too if your brother was allowed to beat on you at will. Anyway, they have no clue about manners and think nothing of just coming in our yard with their DOG, which Jenny is afraid of, and taking over our play equipment. I have a feeling I'm gonna have a confrontation with the parents sometime after this swingset is built. I came home the other day from running errands and found the girl and a friend I didn't even know in my back yard with the dog. The twins were up on the patio steps, not really knowing what to do with my MIL, who couldn't be rude to a child if she tried. When we're outside and they come over we invariably have to go in just to get away from them, because it always gets out of control. The other day the boy dared the twins to walk out in the middle of the street. They didn't, of course, but this is just the kind of crap that goes on.
I like the parents ok, I just wish the kids had some manners and sense. I don't what to have to be a witch, but I will.

the swing set sounds awsome. I'm coming over- and I might bring the kids too. :0)

Can I come play? Can you send him over here to build us one too?
That sounds fantastic!! I hope you can keep the neighbor kids out. They live in my yard because of the trampoline, so I feel for you. Sometimes I feel like I'm running a daycare center.
