Just a heads up on this show - I think it must have been a member on another ivillage board that told me this. (she was at the taping of this show earlier this year)
He uses fairly extreme examples and his highlight guest is a person who is against using any medication at all for adhd. Basically the gist of it is that ADHD is a parenting problem, 100%.
While I agree that behavior modification plays a HUGE part in raising a child with ADHD (I have an almost 6yo who has an ADHD diagnosis (this took 1.5 years and because of his age is still not 100%) and I am choosing not to medicate him), it is not the ultimate cure all for a lot of kids. ADHD is a neurological problem. The problem is that there is no test to measure it like an EEG or bloodwork. It relies on the diagnosis of a professional, and the diagnosis should take more than a 20 min appt with a pediatrician or one simple hour with a psychologist. My son's diagnosis took a long time because it involved implementing behavior modification, observing his response to discipline methods, getting a report from the teacher, getting a second and third opinion from another independent therapist and the school psychologist, and simply observing his development over time.
Oops, off of my soapbox. Just wanted to give a warning that this show looks like its going to be along the line of Dr Phil telling parents to parent and their kids will not have ADHD anymore.
