Ex-Full time Workers???

I am currently have two children and work full time. I'm pregnant with my third (due in March) and I'm not sure that returning to work would be a great idea. I work 9-5:30 and travel 1 1/2 hours each way to and from work. I was thinking about starting a daycare or babysitting to supplement my income after the baby is born.

I get a 12 week paid maternity leave and thought I would request an unpaid personal leave up to 6 months after without losing my job. This would give me time to adjust finanically and if it didn't work out then I could still return.

As anyone been in this situation? And does anyone have any ideas for a personal leave letter? (I have no idea what to write)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

"In light of the birth of my third child that is just too cute to leave, I have decided my family is more important then this job that gives me nothing but heartache and racks up miles on my car.

Wow.. That isn't much time off with the kids unpaid time. Canada ROCKS! you get 1 year with pay off with your child. In that time you can decide if you want to go back and your employer has to hold your job. It sucks for them a bit but a year is so nice. Because of that and we had to move just as I was supposed to come back they offered me to work from home on a contract so they didn't have to lose the girl they had working their for a year only for me to leave in 6 months or so depending on us selling our house. It rocked. Too bad it was a contract cause working from the home was so nice. Then I got pregnant in between that and got another year off paid with my child. So it was really nice to be at home for 3 years basically with pay but home with my kids. It worked out really well but now my paid time is done for awhile now and trying to figure out if I should go back to work pt or just stay at home full time. It all depends on bills I guess. I love what I do and I am happy to be in Canada cause a Year off was worth it for me:) Without the pay for that year I may have had to go back to work!! Good luck with your decison. I think its personal choice and circumstances at home.

That ROCKED Vanessa! Too funny. But oh so true!

We are a family of 6 (4 kids) and I only spend about $450 a month on groceries. I clip coupons and use http://www.thegrocerygame.com/ to ensure I'm buying stuff at the right time and to my advantage.

I buy formula on eBay and only if I can get it cheaper than I would in the store (not hard to do).

You find ways to save money. You realize what is a necessity and what is a want. You learn to make sacrafices for the well-being of your family. It can happen!

Thanks ladies for all your great advice. Living on only my husband's income is going to be extremely hard since he makes half of what I make and we bought a house in Feb. Not to mention we live in CT. But I figured we can work something out. There are many other woman in my situation where I live who do not have the option to stop working and they need good quality childcare. I'm hoping with my great references and demeanor this will help bring in some extra money. I'm crossing my fingers that I can at least stay home for 6 months. Or that my boss can't live without me (I've been at my company for 10 years) that she will finally come up with flex-time or part-time for me position (I've asked before after my second son was born). I can easily work from home.

I don't really shop for myself, we don't do any traveling, my kids aren't in any extra activties that cost money. We are trying to get out of debt and working at it slowly but it has come down. I am trying to talk to my DH about cloth diapers! I think that's a cool idea and hopefully I'll be nursing longer than my first two.

It's such a struggle for a lot of woman it aggravating! I just want to enjoy the time I have with my last baby. It all goes by so quickly.
