fifth's disease?

Hey y'all. Has anyone heard of or ever had fifth's disease? Elise got a red rash on her arm a couple of nights ago and a few hrs later it was all over her body. I looked it up on the net and it said it's a red, lacy looking rash that can come with a sore throat. It's not contagious once you have it and no antibiotics are needed. We put some cortisone cream on her and gave her some benadryl. The next morning it was gone. Her rash was what they described, but I don't know if that is what it was. Has anyone ever had it or know anything about it? Fill me in. Thanks!
Amber

Amber,
That is so wierd. I had never heard of it until this past Friday. A friend of mine told me her sister (who is a teacher) said that one of the kids in her class got this a few weeks ago, the health nurse told her to not go to work until the contagious part is over, and so she will reduce her chance of being infected. She was in the first few weeks of pregancy, and it can be very dangerous for the fetus. It turned out that the damage was already done, and she was infected. She never had symptoms, but the fetus did, and she ended up losing the pregancy. Once you have been exposed to it, ot had it, you are a carrier, and will not be affected by it again. Apparently in Sweden they have been vacinating little girls for ages. It affects girls more than boys. I would check with the dr to make sure she is ok, and that was what it was. I'm glad the rash is gone now and she is feeling better.
Let me know what you find out,
Lesley
