Frazzled is my middle name now

My DH's sister, who is 33 weeks pregnant, went in to the hospital yesterday with a bad kidney infection. She got it from a UTI!! She was apparently very, very sick from it. She went to the ER where my DH works (I'm sure so she could get the VIP treatment as his sister, and I don't blame her!). He can't be the treating physician for family, but he stayed there really late with her and her DH. They admitted her for IV antibiotics, and she's still in there.

I went yesterday early evening and picked up her 6 year-old DD and 4 year-old DS from my DH's other sister's house. I had them until about 2 hours ago, when Bernadette (my SIL who had them yesterday) came back and picked them up again. On top of my 4 kids, that makes 6. Or Quite A Lot Of Kids. It rained AGAIN today, so we couldn't do the pool. I was going to take them to the pool all afternoon. I figured I could keep an eye on all 6 of them in the kiddie pools. No luck! Thunderstorms, showers. . . I swear we've had the rainiest Summer in history! So we were stuck in the house. I had them on the screened back porch for a while doing playdough and drawing, but it was a constant juggling act every second. I was scared to go pee. I didn't want to leave them alone!

Michael (DH) got home at almost 11 last night, having hung out with his sister and her DH. I had to get all 6 put down. OK, I volunteered for this, so I shouldn't complain, but I had no idea how hard it would be! Bathing 6 kids is just a huge undertaking. We didn't do anything for the 4th of July last night (it was raining then, too), but we did do a picnic and fireworks on the 3rd (Monday). Anyway, my niece Lia started crying for her mom when it was time to go to sleep. And I don't just mean crying. I mean sobbing, freaking, shaking, hysterical. She was worried about her because she knew she was sick and in the hospital. We called Monica (my SIL), but she really didn't calm down, even talking to her mom. It went on until after 10. That's when my DH decided to head home to help me out. Of course, 10 minutes before he walked in, Lia finally fell asleep.

I am so worn out. I can't believe how much 6 kids can wear you out. I wouldn't stress Monica with my complaints (she's one of my bestest friends :) ), and I'm so happy to help her out. I've been worried about her and her baby, and it was the least I could do, but I swear I could sleep for 24 hours straight. . . When's DH getting home?? At least it's just my 4 kids now. The house actually seems peaceful, LOL!

Wow, I would have been worn out too. The only time I have had more then 6 kids is Andrews bday party and that was about 15 kids without adults for 4 hours UGH
So I can imagine how you felt.
I hope his sister is feeling better now.
And god bless you for volunteering to take care of those kids.

gosh, two kids are enough for me. I couldnt imagine having that many! when I was pregnant with my youngest, I had 4 UTI's in just 9 months. antibiotics would clear it up for a month or so and then I would get another one. I never had any symptoms so I wouldnt know I had it without the urine test. that is scary that it can turn to kidney infection so easily. hope she is doing okay now.

Wow, Sofia - that explains why you haven't been on the board!! Hope your SIL is feeling better, now. You're a great friend for taking such good care of her kids. Hope to see you around more, now that things are actually "peaceful" at your house, LOL!

Hugs,
Wendy
