My son has a friend who I don't really care for.

I agree with the PP. I would have him over a little more. You can always tell him that this kind of behavior is not acceptable at your house and you would appreciate him not talking like that while he is there. Sounds to me like his mother forgot to teach him a little respect and manners. But I would fish things out for yourself before you reach out to others. GL this is a toughy!

I wonder if it might be a good idea to set up a meeting with the school counselor or principal yourself. I think it would be unwise to remain quiet about the hitting issue, in case it is true. You could also express your concerns about the influence of this boy on your child. Good luck!

I don't know about kids but I know that if you report abuse with out physical images (for lack of a better word) they don't seem to try to hard. I would (if you still allow the child in your home) document his behavior and any bruises you might see (remember also that some times kids fall) I would also talk to the schools councilor and share any information you have with him. he could talk to the child and also be on the look out for bizarre behavior. other than that there really isn't all that much you can do. I was in a similar boat with a little boy I watch. my story turned out ok I guess though he wasn't being abused physically by his dad. it just turns out his mom is a lying alcoholic.
