We are a family of 5 and we have 2 boys and a girl, ages 3,7 and 11.Lately it seems impossible to keep the cupboard stocked enough to keep them full!We have big lunches, and definetely huge suppers and they still eat me out of house and home!Last month I kept track of all my grocery bills and I came in at just over $1200 cad!I was just wondering what you gals spend on groceries and does anyone have the same pro? Thanks in advance.

It seems like we spend a ton in groceries too, but not that much! We're a family of four with a 19 month old boy and a five week old girl. We also have two cats and two dogs to feed. I was listing all of the necessary monthly costs including pet food, diapers, formula, cleaning stuff, etc. and that stuff alone - no food items included - came to $250. Then we spend about $150 at Sam's Club a month and about $200 at the grocery store. That's about six hundred a month just for us. What really gets us right now is having two kids in diapers and having to buy at least four cans of formula a month. It's crazy!!!

We spend probably $400-450 a month on groceries/household products/health and beauty per month. I buy everything at Wal-Mart usually so it's all together. I only shop twice a month (paydays!) so keep myself from buying extra stuff we don't need.

My biggest help with grocery shopping is that I make a huge list before I go. I plan two weeks of meals and then re-write my list in sections based on the store so it's easier to make sure I get everything on my list. I eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies the first week and then rely on frozen produce the second week. I save TONS of money and time by shopping this way. It also saves money on gas b/c I'm not constantly running to the store!

Our groceries usually run between $600-800/month. Closer to $600 when we don't have a Costco trip that month. This is for our family of 3 and does not include cleaning products/diapers/toiletries, etc. I buy alot of fresh fruit and organic.

Pam - are you shopping at a Super Wal-Mart for your groceries? I've gone there a couple times and definitly get more for the money compared to my normal trips to Dierbergs.

I definitly do better when I make meal plans and a list.

Ok,so other than one person on here we are spending about twice the amount.Ouch! We pro eat out twice a week at about $35 a pop,so I guess that can be added in as well.We do get fresh fruit though every couple of days and dh doesn't like frozen meat so thats every 3 days as well.Let's face it I am at the grocery store every second day, good thing it's close, lol!

We are a family of 4, DH and I, Emily (2) & Brianna (2wks)...right now I spend $80-$100 per week on groceries, but find myself running to the store in the middle of the week to get a few more things...DH is the one that eats so much here, he's always snacking and making late night meals for himself, even when I cook a big supper!

It's the kids and dh that eat the most here. The boys(3 and 7)eat like horses. And my dd is a very tall, lithe girl but she still eats well, alot of fresh fruit. For example Sat. night we barbequed and we made 7 hamburgers,6 corn on the cob,5 baked potatos, and a huge salad! That was one meal! When we have T-bones w have to que up 4 of them at $8.50 a pop,its ridiculous! And they tell me the boys will only eat more as they grow,OY!

It is what it is.Know that to be true.

I am also a family of 5 and we generally spend $400 a month on groceries. But my kids are a lot younger, dd age (almost) 4, ds age 2 1/2, and ds 7 months. $1200 a month? Ouch. I HOPE that it isn't going to cost that much in the future to feed them. Yikes. My 7 month old LOVES to eat.
