grocery spending?

hi everyone! i was just wondering what other people's families are spending on groceries. my husband and i eat at home just about every night and we have a 18mo old who is very picky. and i can't seem to get out of the grocery store each week for under 200-250$. And we don't exactly have a lot of money so this is adding some stress for us. I plan about 5 dinners per week and i usually don't make any additional trips to the store. I feel like i am buying a lot for my little one a lot of produce since he eats a lot of fruit. I don't know if that is normal for other people too? if it is i will feel better but i am not so sure.

I spend about $200 every two weeks. We eat all but one meal a week at home usually. I do most of my shopping at Super Wal-Mart and also use coupons.
I don't want to be an advertisement; but I just joined The Grocery Game yesterday to help us save some money and it looks like it will really help us out. They do all of the research in your area at grocery stores and list which items are on sale that week and how to combine them with the best coupons to save the most money. You can get a four week trial for $1; that's what I'm doing now. I'll be making my first trip to the store with it tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns our for me!

That is about what we are spending. But I have found that if I buy say 3 pounds of beef, then I can make 3 differnt meat dinners out of it. Potatoes are cheap right now and you can make baked potatoes, mashed, fries, cheesy potatoes out of the bag.
Have you tried frozen fruit and vegetables? They are comparable in price and you only cook what you need so you might reduce the amount of spoilage you have.
I go grocery shopping every two weeks and spend between $150-$175 at that time. I have a family of four (11 1/2 yr old & 16 months, both boys). The only other time I take a quick run to the store is for milk or bread. I also am a big time coupon cutter..it does help.
I understand the expense you feel you spend on your picky eater, expcially on produce. I do not have a picky eater myself, but I have a little boy (16 1/2months) in my daycare who eats nothing but pb&j, waffles and fruit. To get him to try different things, I have been disquising stuff in applesauce or peanut butter. The other day we had veggie soup, and on the same spoon was applesauce, he ate it!!! Try other dips, dressings with other things and maybe he will try more.
To cut down, try making some of your own (applesauce, peachsauce, etc) We have saved money buy starting our own garden with the yummies the boys like.
Hope this helps....good luck.
Well, if nothing else this will make you feel better....I budget (and spend) roughly $1500/month for our grocery/household supplies.
