Growing Pains?

Is there such a thing as growing pains? My 6 year old occasionally has aches that seem to come and go. They are usually in her legs or feet, but not always in the same spot. It's not causing her alot of pain, it's just uncomfortable and it helps a little if I rub it. Just curious if it might just be growing pains?

How long have the pains been going on in the same spot?
I remember as a kid, getting pains from growing, but they only lasted a short time.
It could be from growing, but I say if it happens for too long, I would take her to the dr to be sure that is what it is.

The pain doesn't last very long and it is usually in different places. Sometimes it will wake her up at night but she's able to go right back to sleep and doesn't mention it in the morning. We call them growing pains (which she thinks is pretty cool : ) but I just wasn't sure if there was such a thing. I'm not too worried about it, but I will ask next time we're at the doctor.
Thanks!

Well, most likley it is growing pains. Sounds like it and I know you can get them all the way up to about 20. (I think that far)
Hope they dont last too long and go away soon.

Hi Wendy,

I don't know "for sure" as I am not a dr, but I think that there are growing pains. I was a shrimp as a kid, and in 2-3rd grade, I shot up, it was so painfull!!! I thought my legs and arms were going to pop off. By the time I was in 7th grade, I was almost 5 foot 6, it stopped for a year or so, and by the 8th grade, I was 5 foot 10. After that there were no more pains. It sucks!!!! I was hugely taller than all the guys in my class, and I felt like a freak, but it wore off quickly, I realized there were taller guys out there!!!

I did see my dr at one point because I had some mild seizures, it was attributed to quick growth. I have been fine!

I had terrible "growing pains" when I was younger. My daughter who is 2 1/2 started when she was about 2 years old. Poor babe. I know that they must be growing pains because she will shoot up an inch or put on another 1/2 inch on her foot size shortly after she complains alot. Hers seem to be only in her legs. From all I have read by doctors "Growing pains" seems to be real. She always complains at nightime so I give her a nice warm bath, rub her legs, and give her a dose of Tylenol (if real bad). Letting her play in the warm bath really helps the most. It is funny too she will eat so much during the times that she is complaining of the pains so I know that must be growth.

YES, growing pains are real. Keep an eye on her, and if they get worse then you're right in talking to the Dr.. My daughter used to complain about her right leg all the time, so much so that the Ped. sent us to an orthopedic, who ordered x-rays. Nothing showed up so he said growing pains, well she kept complaining, so he ordered a bone scan. Thankfully once again nothing showed and a few weeks later she stopped complaining about them. The ped's. fear was she may have cracked her growth plate, so that is why she didn't wait and sent her to the ortho.
I also met a woman in one of my EMT refresher classes, who's son actually went into cardiac arrest from growing too quickly. Thankfully for her son and her family he is now a full grown VERY active young man.

I used to get them when I was younger and they called them "growing pains". Well, I am 35 and still have them. It is actually restless leg syndrome.

Keep an eye on them. I used to get them so bad (still do) that I woke up screaming.

You might want to mention them to your doctor the next time she goes in. It may just really be growing pains, but if they don't go away in a few years, it may be restless leg.
