Some of you may have read my recent postings about Zander's allergy sensitivities.
Well last night around 11:00 I was sitting at the comp typing a memo when I started to feel "sweaty." I thought it was weird because my hair felt itchy. Then the palms of my hands started to feel itchy and I felt like my ears were closing up...like I was underwater. Well then I looked down at my arms and noticed I had hives all over and they were speading really quickly. Suddenly because of all the research I have been doing on Zander it clicked that I was having a severe allergy attack! This has never happened to me in my whole life! My dh rushed me to the ER which is 10 min away and by the time I got there I was having trouble breathing, and my whole body was swollen up and I had a "tight" sensation all over. I thought I was going to pass out cause I could not breathe and they rushed me back and gave me a shot of steroids and a really high dose of benadryl. I just can't believe this happened! Zander really saved my life I think last night because I was able to figure out so quickly what was going on. I still have some hives today but they said that is normal and it is the same attack not a different one. So now I have to figure out what I am allergic to because next time could be worse.
Now that I have had time to reflect I realize I have had strange occurances of hives all my life, but it was always over with really quickly and was nothing bad. I always thought that I got hives when I was especially stressed out and that this was just something unique to me.
I am still kinda in schock that this happened and thank GOD for he DOES work in mysterious ways!!!

Wow, Traci!! Thank God you're all right! I'm so glad you live so near the hospital! I know from Michael that is called "anaphylactic shock" and you can die from that really quickly. Did the doctors give you an epi pen incase it happens again? It's a quick dose of epinepherine (sp??) that you can inject really quickly incase you feel it coming on again. Did you eat anything different or take any medications that you're not used to? What about spider bites or bee stings? I would advise you to go see an allergist/immunologist to pinpoint what caused that, so you can avoid it in the future.
I have had hives before, but never anaphylaxis, and I haven't had hives since I was in my early 20's. They determined it was certain antibiotics with me (penicillin, for one). Michael got hives when he was little from strawberries and has avoided them his whole life, not wanting to go into anaphylactic shock. . . Be careful!!
How scary!! I am SO GLAD you're OK!
