Guess what happened to me this weekend!!

OK, I take back everything mean I said about my DH last week. He *totally* got one over on me, and I admit it was not the best way to trick me on my birthday, but his excuse was that he was trying to throw me off by telling me he'd agreed to work this past Saturday when we had a Date Night. He didn't need to throw me off--I was clueless to begin with. He said the minute he said it, he regretted it and realized he'd ruined my birthday (men!! They don't think!), but he said he knew inside he was just messing with me, and it was only a matter of time until I found out the truth; and he knew if he took it back, I'd clue in that something was up his sleeve. So he said he just felt bad and held his breath until I found out the truth. He also said "You should know me better than to think I'd agree to work if we had something planned", and I thought I did!! I guess I was right. . . So if you missed my heated vent last week, never mind. It doesn't matter now anyway!

I woke up Friday still mad at him. Came down to find him in the kitchen cooking breakfast. I thought he was sick or something. I asked him why he wasn't at work. He said he wasn't going to work, and was dressed in jeans & a T shirt, which he's not allowed to wear to work. I asked him *why* he wasn't going to work, and he said "You'll see", and had this weird little smile on his face. I got veeeeery suspicious, LOL! When the boys were up, he told them "When you come home from school, Auntie Maria is going to be here, and Mommy & I will be back after the weekend". I was like: "WTH are you talking about??" Then Matthew asked him more questions, and Justin asked him where we were going, and he said "On a ship", and he just kept smiling at me. I was even more confused, but starting NOT to be ticked off at him anymore, the little sneak!! I asked him what he was talking about, and he said "I'm taking you away for the weekend for your birthday and our anniversary."

He took Matthew to the schoolbus (this week is their last week of school), and when he came back, he told me to pack for 3 nights, for very warm weather, and a swimsuit "or two", and something dressy for dinner. He said "Pack stuff you'd want to sit around the deck of a cruise ship in". OK, well THAT pretty much gave it away, except I had no clue where we were going! Then he went into the files in his study and got our passports, and told me to put them in my purse. I kept asking him where we were going, and he just kept saying "You'll see" and "I'll tell you soon". I was in total shock! He told me we had an 11:25 AM flight to Miami!! He came up & packed with me, and asked me what he needed to pack for the kids, that the girls were going to Maria's and the boys to Monica's . He had previously arranged all the childcare without my knowlege! I talk to Maria every day (she's my best girlfriend/sister), and Monica several times/week and just went on a week's vacation with Monica, and no one clued me in at all!! No wonder Maria wasn't sympathetic to my venting about Michael last Thursday night! It must have been all she could do to keep from telling me what was up! But I think what surprises me the most is that Michael managed to set all this up & keep it quiet for months!! He's lucky I don't pay the bills, or I would have noticed a slight deficit in our account, LOL! He's good, I have to hand it to him. I was totally clueless!!

So Maria came and we left for the airport, and on the way he told me we were going on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line for a 3-night cruise to the Bahamas!! OMG! We had a BLAST!! It was amazing! And the ship was like a floating I-don't-know-what. Michael said it looked like a wedding cake on the water, LOL! And it was total romantic luxury: Chilled champagne in our room, mints on our pillows with the bed turned down, great food, dancing, casino, pools, bars, unlimited drinking binge. You name it!! But I think the coolest thing of all was a natural thing: we had the full moon this weekend--over the black ocean out at sea, and it made a stream of light across the water. It was just so beautiful, I couldn't stop gazing at it!

So we boarded the ship and set sail around 5 PM Friday in Miami, and the next morning docked in Cococay, which is a private island owned by the Cruise Line. We spent the day there and went snorkeling in the coral reef and saw the fish feeding. It was AMAZING!! So cool! The beaches were pristine and the Caribbean is the color of turquoise. It's a paradise there! On Sunday, we docked in Nassau & that was my favorite day, because I'm a dolphin lover, and we took a catamaran to Blue Lagoon Island where they have dolphins (Flipper lives there, LOL!). The guides gave us a presentation on the dolphins, and then we were taken to a floating raft, and got to meet the dolphins. We went in the water and the dolphins were right there! It was so cool!! We also took a glass-bottomed boat around Nassau, and into a reef where we could see the marine life, and they gave us free rum punch ;) and then the boat took us back to the cruise ship. . . We had 1 more night at sea, and docked back in Miami yesterday morning and flew home.

I think the best part is that Michael went to so much effort to surprise me with this. Even though his "fib" that he had to work Saturday hurt me a lot at the time, I now know it was just to throw me off & of course I forgive him after this, even though it wasn't the best move. But in retrospect, I'm seeing the humor in it now. Men just don't think before they open their mouths half the time. But he *did* think in planning this for me for months, and making it a total romantic surprise, and I am so touched. It was such an amazing weekend, beyond my wildest dreams! (I expected to be home sulking that he'd broken our date, LOL!) I had surprised him on his birthday in April, and took him away for *one* night to a bed & breakfast and it rained the whole time, LOL! We had fun anyway, but he *really* outdid himself with this weekend, and it was very sweet & romantic. I am now in love again ;) I'm still in happy shock. A nice mini-honeymoon, and so cool to be alone with him for 3 nights in such a beautiful location. A nice break in our busy lives!

So we've been married 13 years as of yesterday, and I can happily say I'd marry him all over again :)
