Oh Jenny, I feel for you! My girls' naps are my sanity. So far, they still take them most of the time. Sometimes they just play quietly in their room together, and are usually pretty good about it. I'm fortunate. On days when we do stuff in the afternoons, and they miss their naps, they're very cranky by about 7:30 PM. But it does make it easier to get them down at night. They'll be 3 on Sept 10th. When does Jacob turn 3? I hope he keeps napping for you!
That's a tough one! My little guy has been trying for about a year to stop taking naps and some days I just give up. Granted, he's almost 5 and starting school in the fall so I guess naps are becoming pointless for him!
What kind of worked for me was to go in and lay down with them (DD is 3) and rub their backs for a while. Some days It's a real pain to stay in there for up to an hour and other days they are both out like lights. It is nice because it's become our "cuddle" time, we read a book and sometimes say an afternoon prayer and then lay down. I wonder if you made him a bed downstairs somewhere, just for naps if that would help at all??
If all else fails, maybe give up the naps but put him to bed really early everynight so you get a little break and he gets his extra sleep.
Good luck, I hope you find somthin' that works for you! Michelle (newbie)
P.S>- Don't feel like a bad Mom! We all love the nap time and miss it when we don't get it!!;-)
My 3 year old was the same way, some days I thought I would go insane. I set a naptime for him at 1:30 and I was very strict about him being in bed for a nap at that time, it's early enough, so that he would sleep through the night. Well, we werent always home at that time, so it got a little tricky. Sometimes it would take me hours to get him to nap, and by that time it was dinner time, lol. I would still try to get him to settle down earlier, especially if he is cranky, and not happy when he hasnt napped. I just eliminated my 3 year olds naptime, and it's a very very very long day when he's up all day, but then again he goes to bed at 8:00, so, that gives me time at night. I hope things work out, just see what works best for the bth of you!:) Kate
Oooh...I know this is probably not what you want to hear, but my son who is 2 1/2 now hasn't been napping since he was 21 months.
