I'm home from the hospital!!
July 3rd was my bday, DH took me out to dinner and afterwards we went to some shops to get afew more baby things. By the time we hit Target, I knew that something was different...the pain was alot more intense than I'd felt before. However, I didn't want to get sent home yet AGAIN, so we just went home. All night long, I was up, contractions ten minutes apart from 9pm until 7am. Yup, 10 hours. I was getting really exhausted AND annoyed, because I felt like I was going through false labor YET AGAIN. heh. Anyway, at 7am all of the sudden my contractions went from 10 minutes apart to three minutes apart, and I started bleeding! I woke up DH and said, "It's time." He jumped up out of bed and off we went! I was getting really worked up by the time we got to the hospital, the contractions were ALOT stronger and it dawned on me that I finally understood what people meant by "you'll just know when it's time."
We got to the hospital and got checked in, and I was in tears at this point. The silly woman actually looked at me and said, "so what's going on?" DH was like, "SHES HAVING A BABY!!!" heh. Kind of funny, looking back on it. Not so funny, going through it.
We got up to L&D only to find out that we'd have to do some laboring in triage because there were 5 other women who had delivered their babies THAT MORNING! And it was only 730 AM at this point!
I have to tell you, DH was an AMAZING coach. I felt like I was losing my mind, seriously. I had decided against a birth plan and to just go with the flow of things, and OMG am I glad I did. A shot of demerol later and I was a tad more sane, able to focus on Tim getting me through breathing with each contraction. I cannot even tell you how focused I was able to become, just looking into his eyes. It was honestly one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced with DH.
Around 11am they finally got me into a L&D room, and it was very nice. The lights were dimmed, it was just me and DH and our nurse, Elizabeth. Around 1pm I FINALLY got my epidural. I honestly have no clue how I got through 6 hours of 3min apart contractions w/o anything but that initial shot of demerol and DH. Totally insane.
Once the epidural was in place...I was a new woman! heh. I was at 6cm by this point, and things were able to continue to progress for the new few hours. At 5pm I was at 10cm and the nurse said, "okay let's push!" Now...how women push babies out in four pushes, I will never know! I was pushing with each contraction for the next hour, then the doctor comes in and says that it's time to get the baby out. He ended up having to help me along with a hand pump vacuum thingy, and at 630 pm, Dylan Kade River Smith made his entrance into the world, screaming his lungs out!!
I cannot even describe that ethereal feeling that happens the moment I gave that final push and heard his first cry. Tim and I looked into eachother's eyes and both burst into tears. The doctor helped me deliver my after birth and such, even with an episiotomy I still tore! ugh. Partial third degree, the doc said. It could have been worse, I suppose!
I still had the epidural in place so I didn't feel a thing anyway. Tim was with Dylan, they did everything in our room!
9 lbs, 1 oz!
22.5 inches long!!
They said that, and I understood why I tore!! lol. He got 9/9 on his APGAR, everything with him has checked out beautifully.
Anyway, I'm home now, he's nursing perfectly, and though it hurts like a b*tch at first, I'm so thankful he's alive.
Five feet of cord...AND THEY FOUND A FRIGGEN KNOT! I know, my heart totally stopped when the doctor said, "you have a very lucky little boy, this should have killed him." BUT we are so thankful that he is a live, we are trying not to get freaked out with how close they came. CAN YOU BELIEVE my doctor was going to let me go until the 12th?!!! Sheesh. lol.
Anyway, she was on vacation so another doctor from the practice delivered him...the oldest and most experienced of the group, so Dylan picked a good day to come...lol. It's almost time to feed him again so I'm going to hobble over to the bed and lay down for a bit.
Btw, Here are the pictures!!

How wonderful Mel! I loved reading your birth story and honestly, I'm jealous. I just did that almost 5 months ago and am sad that I will never do it again. Four kids is enough for us. And I'm one of those women whom you hate - DS Hayden was born in two pushes during one contraction. Logan and Megan were each about 5 pushes. Only my first made me wish I was dead - one hour of pushing and a cone-headed baby later I was done. I also said she was going to be an only child after all that. Funny how things change.
Congratulations on your beautiful little boy!!!!! I'm happy for you.
Congratulations! I had noticed that you hadn't been around and wondered if you were off having that baby boy! He's adorable and ALL BOY! (don't think you could put a bow on him and pass him off...he looks just like a BOY!)
Glad to hear your L&D went well and little Dylan is here safe and sound...enjoy your little man!
Congrats Mel!
Melanie, Congratulations! What a beautiful boy! By the way, I'm Wendy, SAHM to Katie (9) and Molly (6). I don't think I got a chance to intro myself, as I was on vacation. I'm glad you are part of this board!

It makes me nostalgic, and your birth story made me tear up a little, it was so amazing. I am just so so happy for you and your DH, and so glad everything went well.
Enjoy that gorgeous baby boy!
