Hi everyone, I hope this finds you all well...
I am in need of help. This was a bad work week for my husband (he works construction and it rained needless to say no work)and I need some ideas.
He and I have about 20.00 for food this week I need ideas to make that stretch out until next Friday for dinners. We have an Aldi's here but I have never been and dont know if they have decent bargains. Help Help Help. Also I dont know if you are spiritual women, but if you are please extend your prayers out to our family, we are struggling financially and are waiting to see if my husband is going to get a job he applied for (with benefits YIPPY). I know that I have to rely on Gods will and have put it in his hands, but some extra prayers I dont think would hurt!!!
THanks again for your dinner ideas and will talk to you soon

Hello Joni,
We have been in the same boat many, many times. I will tell you what a good friend told me around 8 years ago when we only had around $20 for food. You take that $20, go to the groceries and say a prayer with the money in your hand and ask God to help you buy plenty to feed your family. May sound a little silly but it always works for us. When we are tight, I usually buy a 5lb chub of ground meat (this time buy the cheapest) and you can make around 4 meals out of that. Mix the meat with tomato sauce, green beans or corn for one night. Spaghetti another (always cheap). Maybe hamburgers another night. Crispy tacos with the meat is always cheap also. Don't forget rice and beans very cheap. Suggested mac & cheese with hot dog pieces is always cheap and kids love that.

We have been there many times as well.........one of the things I do is buy the generic hamburger helper from walmart because its less than 1.00 a box and then we use the 1 1b. rolls of ground turkey instead of hamburger because it runs about 1.00 a roll.......with that and a can of veggies you have dinner for less than 2.50..........i've noticed the mac and hotdogs has been suggested and that definitely a cheap and easy meal, my kids also like hot dogs cut up in pork and beans. Tuna helper is also cheap and easy, the generic is less than 1.00 a box at walmart and tuna only runs around .50 a can........you can also make plain ol' mac and cheese and put tuna in it. Aldis is a great place for canned and boxed items, but I don't know about meats.
You and your family are in our prayers! Trust in God and He will see you through! I know when we've been literally down to our last penny
Good luck to you, from experience I know that this too will pass...
Joni, I've been in your shoes also. My dh is an electrician, so he has been laid off alot. I know how hard it is. I have an idea - if you don't subscribe to Taste of Home magazine, go to your local library and look for it. They always have budget meals in there. For example, if you go to their website (tasteofhome - you know the rest)today, they have a budget meal you can serve for $1.54 per plate and it is a complete MEAL! Not bad, in my opinion. I'm sure there are other budget minded magazines and websites you could check out. Also, spagetti is cheap to make (and my family LOVES it) and it fills you up. I know I haven't helped alot, but I wanted to at least try, as I know how hard it is. Good luck to you and your dh. I will pray for you and your family.
