Help me decide - what is it worth?

DH and I looked at a new community yesterday that we both fell in love with. It is very family-oriented with tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds galore. The homes are townhomes, about four to a section with either 3, 4 or 5 bedrooms, lots of storage space and garages. It's a gated community so we know it would be safe.
However....
The rent prices are about $500 more than we pay for our three bedroom apartment right now and between the security deposit and pet deposit they want $2500 plus first months rent to move in. (They said they would split it up in three monthly installments but that is still a lot extra to come up with each month.) Those homes don't include cable which ours now does but they do include free high-speed internet. We would be cutting our internet bill and cut down our electric bill by moving there which could actually make up the extra rent price. We could also cut out our phone bill and just use our cell phones since we would be in town and would get good service.
If we stay where we are we are already settled but have to deal with the irritating neighbors in a neighborhood that is mediocre. There have been incidents up here (a shooting, break-ins, we've had two back windows broken out of two of our cars) that really make DH and I want to move. It is fine with just us but having kids makes us want to live not only somewhere safer but somewhere that if very family friendly.
Now what I'm thinking is that we can wait one month, DH can work a bunch of overtime (which he is planning on doing anyway) and try to get in at the beginning of July then we can have more to put toward the deposits and maybe only split up a small portion. And what's nice is that my parents might be moving back up here from Arizona and they have been looking at this place online as a place to live. If they live there too we'd be close to a built-in babysitter. Huh? Huh? Nice?
But what would you do? Financially it is workable, we'd just have to be very tight on some things or DH would have to work extra. But we'd be in a better place. DH is rearing to go. He's like, let's move NOW. But I'm hesitant.

Tarra,
Weren't you looking to buy a house a while back?
It sounds like you've worked out the financial part of it, and if its do-able, I would go for it!
We were trying to buy a house a while back but things just kind of kept falling through on the house we wanted so we've backed off. We're keeping our eye out on the market though and seeing whats coming and going. I think we've decided to stay where we are until next spring. I would really like to move to this other place but I just don't think we should. DH is iffy about it now too so I think we'll be staying where we are.
