Well it was bound to happen sometime.

My 11 month old dd has her 1st fever. I gave her baby tylenol at 5:30am, and her fever is still at 102F. She isn't really sleeping, just lying on my bed kind of whimpering every couple minutes. When do I take her to the doctor, or do I?

She has had 2 bottles this morning, but doesn't want cereal or anything. She isn't throwing up, or having diarreah. (sp???) Any advise?

Thanks

Lesley

If you are worried take her to the Dr. I have never given my kids tylenol that it doesn't drop the fever, so I'd go to the Doctor. Or call the pharmacy and see what thay recommend you do. It's better to safe than sorry...Sorry she;s sick...maybe it's teeth coming through?.. good luck shelley

yup, the first fever is a milestone, lol. advice from the queen of sick kids: wait it out. it's 99.99% likely to be a virus, and there's nothing they can do about it anyway, so save yourself and poor dd a trip in. ear infections (the other big cause of fevers) don't usually come on that fast, and she'd probably be crying a lot harder. some kids don't respond that well to tylenol, and since she's not had a fever before, it's time to find out what meds work to bring hers down. every kid is different, what works like a charm on one of mine does nothing on my other one, so try advil or motrin. and if you really want to knock it out, try alternating tylenol and motrin every three hours, that will usually bring down the worst fever. watch for tugging at her ears, screaming bloody murder, or alot of vomiting, and if she doesn't have any of those symptoms then try to wait it out.

it took me 3 years and 2 kids to learn when to take them in and when to keep them home, but amazingly enough a good rule of thumb is "if in doubt: don't." when your kid is sick enough that they really NEED to go, then you almost always know for sure. if you have to wonder about it, then they'll probably be just fine at home.

good luck, hope she feels better soon!

If the medicine hasn't helped...then I would take her to the DR. You really have to watch when their temperature gets that high. She could go into convulsions. Its better to be safe than sorry!

Sorry I just found this lesley. Now, what I'm going to say right now is going to sound weird. I am from Belize, Central America. We're into natural remedies. I'm only 33 but I prefer natural remedies first. Well it all depends on the illness.

When your baby has a high fever that doesn't want to go down, it's always best to rush the baby to the hospital. When they are small you don't want to play with a high fever. That is serious thing.

Now here's an old remedy we use. And let me tell you,I use it on my 13 yr old couple months ago, and her fever was gone.

Take a potato. A small one. And cut it in half. Take one half and just cut it in 2 slices. Put a slice each under babies foot bottom and put on a sock on her. That will draw out the fever. I guarantee it. If not...better take baby to the hospital. But it works all the time.

Also, take a cold rag and put it on babies forehead. The cold rag draws out the heat. You will see that the rag will literally get dry on her. She might cry because the rag is cold. But it won't do no harm.

I hope the baby is find now. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier.
