HELP! SAHM burnout

Anyone have any ideas to combat SAHM burnout???? I knew I was in trouble when my mom said the other nite on the phone "but aren't having little kids fun?" (she was serious, not being sarcastic). I couldn't honestly tell her that it was fun, or even enjoyable. I have a 19 mos old DS and a 4 yr old DD, and they're driving me nuts. I've been a SAHM since my DD was born, btw. They fight, they whine, my DS won't go to bed before 9:30-10:00 at nite unless he doesn't take a nap at all during the day. My DD argues with everything I say, and both of them scream and throw fits when they don't get their way. I know, nothing new, but for the past 2 wks, I'm grouchy, have no patience, and am really hating being at home with them. HELP!!! Do we need time apart? I don't have a reliable sitter or family in town.

I know for me I love being at home with my children. I think it does help that I have a teacher's heart and almost look at my whole day as a classroom. lol

My children are homeschooled so it does keep me mentally stimulated. What is it you love to do? Maybe a modified version of this can help you to be mentally stimulated.

Also possibly looking at what is happening in your household as a challenge to conquer could help. Looking up sleep issues and studying early childhood behavior.

I am not a big fan of mass daycare but maybe a mothers day out program could help you and the kids.

I hope it gets better for you! Good luck!

I am not burnt out yet.
It does seem like each day is the same and that can be frustrating at times.
Be happy that you are home with your children and try and find different things to do each day.

I have been a sahm for 4 yrs in Aug. I have 2dds, 4 on 8/23 and 2yrs old. I am also 5 mos pg with #3. I have days when I want to tear my hair out. I think we all have those days when the kids want to fight or whine or do the opposite of everything we tell them! My big thing is having friends who are also moms. I talk about 3 nights a week with a friend who is also pg and has a 3 yr old. It just helps me to reconnect. Maybe your dh would be willing to watch them for the night once or twice a month. You could go out with a friend or just go grab some coffee at the bookstore and browse. Those little breaks make a world of difference! Oh and the other thing that helps me stay sane are my message board friends! Seriously I don't know what I did before I came to ivillage, lol! I hope I helped somewhat. Stick around here with us! :)

Elise and Olivia will both be big sisters!!!
