Not sure if this is the best place to post this message, but I am hoping some of the "pro" mothers out there will be able to help me.
DS (8 1/2 weeks) has been sleeping about 3 - 4 hour stretches at night, but last night he woke up every 2 hours and once it was only 1 1/2 hour. He woke up crying, I assumed he was hungry and as soon as he started eating (I am bottle feeding Nestle Good Start) he would fall asleep. Then just wake up 2 hours later.
Also I just put him on the Nestle Good Start yesterday and his poops are way different. Is it normal for them to be green versus yellow. This is the first formula he has had that has iron in it.
Lastly, over the last couple of days he has been drooling like crazy. He is only 8 1/2 weeks but is it possible that he could be teething this early?
If anyone can help it would certainly put my mind at ease.
Thank you,
Karen

I am not a "pro" by any means, but our kids are the same age. Andrew is 9 weeks old today. He is drooling like crazy too...I don't think that it is teeth related, but maybe just something they do at this age. I was wondering too and I am glad to know that someone else has the same thing going on.
Also, sometimes Andy wakes up a lot and just wants to suckle at something--usually the pacifier works, but sometimes he wants a little snack (that is his favorite hobby--eating!). A few nights ago he woke up every 2 hours and couldn't get back to good sleep. Needless to say I was exhausted the next morning. But, now he is back to his schedule.
Good luck and I hope that this might help a little.

Your son might be teething like you thought.Babies teeth at different ages.My son didn't start teething until he was about 6 months old,but a friend of mine has a son who started teething a few weeks after he was born.
Mabey you could try giving him a little infant motrin or infant tylonal.
Also I have found that sometimes my son goes through a time where he will wake up many times during the night for about a week, then he goes back to sleeping most of the night.
Just last week my son woke up every hour or two, every night. This week he is sleeping fine.Don't worry, this probably won't last long.In the meantime you are doing the best you can.(Oh my son is 10 months old,by the way.)Hang in there, and I'm sure things will be back to normal soon.

First off, welcome to the board if you just joined...
My son is 7 months old and does the same things as your son... He will wake up after about 4 hours of sleep, I try and put him back to bed but end up giving hima
Ask your dr on what is best for your child.
But no Motrin at that age, only Tylenol.
Right there with you guys on the Motrin!!!
I am not a "pro" neither but with the experience from my three kids I would have to say this...
My son drooled forever starting about 8 weeks and still drooling which now (6mth) I know its tooth related, but earlier I had even asked the dr about it and he said it was normal and started to explain to me when we should start seeing teeth.
Now on the formula....
All three of my kids couldn't handle regular formula with iron, they would cry and have bad belly aches and keep waking up at night like they were hungry and sometimes not sleeping at all. Everything changed to the better when we switched the kids to a soy based formula.
Also I believe that since you have changed formula that its normal for the stool to have a change in color and consistancy.

One possibility with the formula switch is that the new iron added formula is causing gas (even if he's not burping more, he could have bubbles lower in his digestive tract--it frequently does so in some babies more than breast milk or non-iron formula. Try asking the pediatrician about infant Mylicon drops (baby simethicone). It's fairly inert stuff, and the dosing goes all the way down to teeny tiny's, but being that I'm no doctor and don't know your baby's weight, you may want to run it by at least a nurse in your office as to dosing. If it's gas, the mylicon will help, and will leave you with two possibilities--1. start dosing him with mylicon before scheduled feeds for a little while to see if he adjusts to the new formula (wean him down off of it and see if symptoms return) or 2. talk to your pediatrician and tell him that the new formula is causing gas, and have him suggest a different type or what to try to relieve the symptoms. Sometimes when switching, you have to do so gradually, by adding a small amount of the new formula to the old stuff, gradually increasing the amount until you've switched over. (Same as from breast to bottle...) It gives the baby a chance to aclimate to the new formula--remember their list of things they've EVER eaten is pretty short.
Only other thing I would possibly try is to quietly give him a passy (not sure how you feel about the whole pacifier thing) without disturbing him too much/turning on lights or offering him food right off the bat. If he turns it down, ok, he might be hungry. If he doesn't, he may just want to suckle, and is using the bottle to calm himself. I breastfed, and had one that wanted to use me as a mobile human pacifier 24 hours a day, hungry or not, LOL!
I promise it does get easier--all babies eventually sleep through the night! I've never seen one graduating high school that woke up mom and dad crying at 2am, anyway... well, except to explain what happened to their new car... Hang in there, sleep when the baby sleeps, and don't stress yourself--every mom on the planet has been where you are :)

In regards to your questions, when I started my daughter on formula, her poop changed color as well, I found it went greenish, which is normal due to the fact it is a different food. I also found I had to mix corn syrup in her morning bottle to prevent constipation due to the iron content. My daughter got her first 2 teeth at 3 months so there is a possibility that your's is definitely teething, which also may explain the odd sleep schedule. The signs I found when my daughter was cutting teeth, were, flaming red cheeks, slight rise in temperature, a constant want to nurse for the soothing, and sometimes a runny bum. Short sleep times may also be due to a growth spurt, the need to cluster feed, is normally a good sign.
I hope this helps,
Teri
