Hi girls - I have a bit of a concern....

Katie's teacher brought up at her conference (which went beautifully by the way - her teacher said she is a smart cookie!!) that they are concerned about her speech. DH and I looked at each other and said "What?" We never noticed anything. However, the 4th grade teacher noticed it one day (Katie is in 3rd). We started listening, and it seems like she has trouble with her "r's" in the middle and at the end of sentences. Hmmmmm, it is so minor, we never even noticed it. It is like she has a little miniature "Jersey" accent, LOL! (Nothing against those who live out east, just trying to give you an example, KWIM?). Anyhow, there are others that have noticed it (our parents, etc.) but the teachers are concerned. Should we be? Fran, do you have any knowledge on this? I guess that by the time they get to 3rd grade, issues like these should have cleared up by now. I guess I was always worried about Molly and her lisp and I should have been watching Katie? I don't know....they are going to be sending paperwork home so that dh and I can sign off on having her observed. Her teacher said it may even be a case of something we can work on at home, as opposed to having her pulled out of class. I just am so surprised. Anyone with any input is certainly welcome!! Thanks!
Wendy

hey Wendy, don't worry... just work with her on her annunciation when you hear her do that.
I can't help but get tickled at Kyle's grandma... she's from Georgia, and always adds an "r" to the end of words ending in "a"... my dd is always called "Hanner" (which she accidentally even wrote on a birthday card once LOL). Hannah has trouble with her "t's" in the middle of words almost like she's a Brit ("be'er" instead of "better") so I'm trying to work with her on that. My brother had a really bad speech impediment and had to go to speech classes in school, and now as an adult
