At home and bored...

Hi,

I've been a SAHM for 3.5 years now. I have a part-time accounting job that I do from home but it doesn't take much time (10 hrs a week). I am wondering how you all deal with being home so much. I've come up to a really slow time in my life here...up until a couple weeks ago we've had people living with us (for over a year) and that has kept things busy around here for me but they finally moved out and I'm thrilled but now things are really quiet even with 2 kids.

My DH has his own company which absorbs most of his time. I was involved at church but it's hard to be since I have my kids with me all the time. My DH's parents live near but don't believe kids should be without their mothers so I don't leave them with his parents.

But anyhow, I digress...how do you all deal with being home so much? I don't go out at all during the week except to go grocery shopping like once every other week or so. What do you do to keep your kids occupied (mine are 3.5 years and 8 months)? My house is so clean since I've been so bored...but I'd rather have a semi-clean house than be going crazy.

TIA,
jenfa

I have been a stay at home mom for 16 years...(I am 46) and I find myself feeling bored and restless at times, and yea, even unworthy, lol...
I have found that a routine helps...scheduling certain things every day, like exercise. My husband has his own business and his office is right next to our house. I do some paperwork to help him out one morning a week. I like to cook. Do simple crafts around holiday time. Take long walks. Gardening. Reading, which invovles trips to the library. These are things that can be done with or without kids. And the Internet is a lifesaving addiction! I don't remember what I did before!
(P.S And I love to shop too!)

It can get boring at home, but the key is having some kind of routine and it also helps me to plan something special then I always have something to look forward to. You know like when your work you look forward to the weekend..same idea. Whether it's a movie night or dinner out-no cooking! Just something simple all the way to date night or girls night out. Those things help keep me sane and functioning! Plus I am on 5 boards here on ivillage and have made some terrific friends who also help break up the monotony. HTH!
