We take each of our kids to Wal-Mart and let each one pick a child off the angel tree and buy some presents for that child. They each usually pick a child around their own age and usually the same sex. But what I found was interesting is they pick the ones the simplest wants (socks, their own tooth brush, etc) and get them extras.

Also we take food and treats (homemade) to the animal shelter because in my kids eyes animals need christmas too

Amber,

that is really so sweet!!! You must be a great mom for your kids to do that! The aniaml shelter part really got me! I used to do that as a kid myself, we grew up on a farm, and animals were so very dear to us, so sad that many forget about them...I think of mine as family members, they always have presents!!!!Good for you, Keep it up!

We just recently got a Walmart here, so I have never heard of the angel tree, I will go and find out if they have that here, and definatly take dd, and get her to do it (although she's 17 months, so I think I'll pick out the present!)

We picked out the presents when they were that little too!! When my third was born (In october 2000) I had a baby shower, anything that was duplicated or we had enough of we just took it and put them in the box along with the other's gifts.

I just love the animals ours also get gifts.

And our animal shelter lets the kids go in and play with all the animals and if its nice they take them out in the yard for a walk and play!! Its just wonderful!!!

Our church runs a "adopt a family" program. 20 or more families(I belong to a REALLY big church) adopt a family in need. The group of people provide food, clothing and toys to the family. My children love picking out the toys and even get in on the grocery shopping. Our church is very generous and these family's get showered with love.

I especially love it that we act as Santa Claus and the children do not know it comes from us...they get Christmas morning gifts at home. The Mom and Dad get to pick everything up withought having a bunch of people gawking at them or having to feel embarassed.
