How to Entertain a 2 1/2 Month Old

Hi, I was just looking for some ideas on how to entertain my 2 1/2 month old baby girl. She doesn't like to play on her own for long and the rest of the time I play with her. The problem is that she doesn't like to do the same things for very long and tires of her toys quickly. Is this a phase she's going through? Any ideas or comments would be appreciated. Thanks

That's just what 2 and a half month olds do hon! ;) Babies in general don't want to be left to play on their own for any length of time, so get used to being with baby almost constantly unless you don't mind her crying. You can always try using a baby sling or front pack carrier- you are baby's favorite toy and if she can be carried with you she'll be entertained and you'll get some things done that *you* need to do (well- things that don't require much bending down or upper body movement... LOL!) I often keep DS in a sling/carrier during the day while I'm doing laundry, making dinner, puttering around straightening up etc. He just loves to babble away at me and that keeps him entertained for *hours*... Heck- what better than Mom *and* changing scenery? LOL! Good luck! After baby starts crawling and can change her *own* scenery at will she'll be able to entertain herself for longer periods of time, but that brings with it a whole new set of concerns! LOL! ;)

Babies at this age require lots of attention and really don't play persay. I use to carry my daughter around in a sling at this age. She always wanted me. Good luck. I found as long she was in my arms she was so happy.

I had the kick n play bouncy seat (well, still have but it's in the attic now). My son loved it and would entertain himself for 15 to 30 minutes. At 2 1/2 months he just sat in it and looked at the lights (there were 2 settings. one where they kicked and the lights went off and played music and the other you flipped the switch and it played music and lit up by itself). When he got old enough he could kick and make it light up and play music. It could also vibrate at the same time and there were toys hanging in front he could reach as he got bigger.

Also, when I needed time to clean the house I would let him watch Baby Einstein videos. Baby Betoven was his favorite. I felt kinda guilty letting him watch tv at such a young age, but you cant always entertain and clean at the same time.

That's funny, Tanya, because I was going to say EXACTLY the same thing! When dd was 2 1/2 months she would hang out in the bouncy (kick and play) and watch Baby Einstein (except Mozart was her favorite!).

2 1/2 month olds just don't DO much, really. When she gets older you'll remember the times when she just stayed put rather fondly! At least you could get some stuff done!

Hi Melissa,

I remember those days....long, long, ago. Tyler is 15 months and will follow me around and cry when I'm trying to clean now. However, he does sometimes entertain himself.

Tyler will watch any of the Baby Einstein videos. We bought the box set off ebay for $100 (10 videos). He likes Mozart too.

Take care,

Tanya

Yup, I remember... little Aspen (now 12 1/2 months) clings when I try to use the computer, clings to my legs in the kitchen, while I'm folding laundry... sigh! She just wants to play! And Play and Play and be entertained all day! I don't know what they did in the old days.... I think that babies just cried a lot!

I'll have to try the videos. I always forget that we have them. Now, she only "watches" (between clinging) either Sesame Street or Animal Jam (a great show on TLC in the morning...they do kids stuff for a couple of hours w/o commercials).

But, tv is pretty much off for the rest of the day. But videos....hmmm...

Thanks!
