How to find a playdate in a new town?

I am a new SAHM and I want to find a playdate for my son. We just moved to a new town and I can't seem to find any other SAHM. All the moms in our neighborhood work. I am hoping to find some friends for my son. He seems to miss the interaction from his old daycare.

You might want to check out Mothers Of Preschoolers (MOPS - www.mops.org) to see if they have a chapter near you. They're a great group. There's also Mothers and More (www.mothersandmore.org) and The Moms Club (www.momsclub.org). Hopefully between the 3 of them you will be able to find a chapter near you.

Other good ways to meet moms are: go to the park, go to storytime at your local library, check out local hospitals to see if they have new mom support groups (you didn't say how old your child is), join a class like Gymboree or Kindermusik, and finally, check out local churches for mother support groups. Oh, and you could look into a Mothers Morning Out program, even if only for 1 morning a week - it provides a break for you and also lets you meet other parents in your child's class (it's how I met the women in my playgroup).

Good luck finding new friends - it's really critical to helping you stay sane while at home!

Well, everyone suggested the same as I would have.
I hope you are able to find a place in your area.
