How much time away from kids?

Hi - Just wanted to ask how much time (on average) you spend away from your kids who aren't in school yet? It looks like I will be working 4-5 hours a week and I am stressing out about leaving my 2 year old and almost 1 year old. I have been a full-time SAHM since my first dd was born. I think some time is good away from them, but do you think 4 hours a week is too much?? I am definatley not ready to go back to work full-time, but I hope 4-5 hours a week will be good for me and not ruin our stay at home relationship. What do you think?

Hi Emilee9,

I think it's the perfect amount of time to be away...just enough to get out of the house, keep your sanity and have adult conversation. I work 4 hours, sometimes 8 about once a week as a nurse. It's wonderful to feel "needed" somewhere else other than home. The best part is, when I get home, DD is so excited to see me. Not something I get very often since we spend every waking minute together. I used to get a little envious when she would be so excited to see DH when he got home, but once a week, I get to enjoy being missed too! Remember you need 'you' time, even if it is working outside the home a little. Good luck!

I am a SAHM and a homeschooling mom. I love being around my kids and really feel no need to get away from them, BUT I do it so that I can get some things done and do some things that I normally do not get to do. I spend 4 hours every weekend doing something for me. A lot of the times it could be just taking a 4 hour nap. I think 4 hours away from your kids is such a short amount of time that they will not even miss it! :) Have fun, I hope it goes well for you!

I spend about 1-2 hours away from my son a day, only because I workout.
I love every minute with him, but that is just not possible with everything.
I do not think the time you are spending away from your child is long, it is healthy for you both.
