I AM SO STEAMING MAD!

This past Saturday, I noticed Matt(my 7 year old) had a swollen eye. He had a football game that morning so I figured some freak thing had happened and he somehow injured it although he said he didn't remember getting hurt.
Later that day was his little brothers b-day party and he semmed fine and was playing and running around. That same night he was laying on the couch and rolled over and said he had a bump by his ear. When I checked him he did indeed have a huge bump so I thought well maybe he HAD been hurt at the football game.

If I were you, I would get a copy of his hospital records from the first admit. I would also write down everything that happened.
I do not know if you can submit it now, but when the hospital comes up for reaccrediation from JCHAO (I think that's the acronym) you can register your complaint with the accrediting body.
If you can do it(register the complaint) now, I would cc the complaint to JCHAO to the hospital administration.
Hey, why not register a formal complaint now. The nurse or RT made a medication error by giving your son a breathing treatment that was not ordered.
I am glad the other hosptial had it figured out so quickly for you.

That scares me for my son, because he IS on Medicaid. My husband was laid off ten days before he was born, and we've had no choice. It terrifies me that if something were REALLY wrong with him, we would be put off!!!
you have to a booklet called a patients rights and if you feel you have not received satisfactory care you can report them. It is worth looking into it. It is important to report these type things.
I hope your son gets better.
I've been through a few of those scary hospital experience with my dd (she had a fever at 4 weeks that they did a spinal tap for, UTI at 4 months, reflux...hmm I know there was something else!)
Its funny, my kids were on MediCal (California's version on Medicaid) for years and we got much BETTER care than we do now with the stupid HMO we pay $600/month for! With Medical we could pick any dr, any hospital, didn't need referrals for specialists, etc. Our HMO on the other hand nickels and dimes everything and is always trying to get out of test and referrals. But thats CA for you I guess!

Thank you everyone for your support. Matt is a little tired but he is eating well and watching tv. He is still having cramps every now and then in his legs but we have a deep tissue massager, and ibuprofen is helping.
I am NOT going to let go what they did to my son! I called our insurance and they are helping us to file a report. I still just cannot belive that they put him through all of that...then he goes to another hospital and is out in an hour!
You know once on a news program I watched this piece where they had parents of children who were on medicaid complaining that dentists were doing unnecessary work on their children to get more money. I'll bet this happens all the time! I think that somewhere in the paper work because our doctor did not have rights at this hospital they had to give him a doctor and someone put down family practice. We have never been treated so horribly before, and I cannot imagine what they do to people on medicaid at hospitals. I'll bet they just figured the breathing treatments and oxygen were harmless and it would add to the bill.
My kids doctor was really ticked at what had happened to him. She called me from home because she is ill herself to apologize. I am filing a complaint though with our insurance company for the unessasary treatment, so that we do not have to pay for what they did. I am also filing a complaint against the hospital. I swear if I had more money I would sue them just to aggravate them!
