I feel bad for saying that, but I'm not one for people just dropping by because they are in the area. I feel REALLY bad because it was my grandparents and my aunt, who have never been to my house before, and they were at my grandfathers oncologists appointment, and stopped by on their way home. They called from about 2 blocks away. I hadnt showered yet, the house was a mess, because I was waiting for Belle to nap so I can clean it properly for my sisters arrival this evening, and we were in the middle of lunch!

I must have looked ridiculous, running around all sweaty, shoving things here and there, trying to clean the house, belle and myself lol. I even kicked crumbs under the area rug in the living room lol. I hadnt swept the laminate floors yet lol.

Oh my, at least they didnt go upstairs...thats a whole other story lol, laundry waiting to be folded everywhere!!! I guess this is why my mom and grandmother always have clean houses lol.

I TOTALLY know what you mean! It always seemed like when my house was a complete disaster area, my sisters or my mom or grandparents would stop over. You're like scrambling everywhere, and throwing things in the bedroom, so you can shut the door, lol. Since it happened a lot, I try to keep up with the housework as much as possible, usually just the bathroom, dining room, family room and kitchen. The bedrooms we can just close the door :)

I agree with you!!! I immensely dislike surprise visitors...so annoying!

Sorry about the stress. That's not nice at all. :(

I kwym!!! I hate when people just stop by. Especially after you have a baby. Hello ever heard of calling first?! When they have cell phones and still aren't considerate enough to call that's when I really get mad, lol!

OMG that's one of my biggest pet peeves! I hope this post doesn't get too long but my dh's family has done this many times and it's drives me crazy. We have no family that live within 3 hours of us so people "just dropping by" makes no sense to me. No one has a phone or what??

The first time this happened I had just had my dd and the house and I were both a mess...I mean really a mess. There was laundry everyone, lunch boiling over on the stove, me in my ratty clothes not even showered...and there on my doorstep was one of my dh's aunt and uncle who I barely knew. I so wished I would have hid in the closet instead of answering the door. They were just in the area and thought they'd stop by. They obviously thought ahead enough to get directions but couldn't take the time to give me a heads up?? I was so embarrassed!

Another time I was just stepping out of the shower when the doorbell rang, so of course I didn't answer it (I'm not like those people on TV who answer the door in their towel??). Anyways, it rings again about 10 minutes later, then 10 minutes later. I'm scrambling around to get presentable enough to answer the door. It turns out to be my FIL...3 hours from home at 8 in the morning and he doesn't even bother to call and tell me he's coming. Apparantly he was meeting a friend...at our house!! and they needed a ride to the airport. How rude is that? Like I have nothing better to do? (Actually I had nothing else going on but still).

Okay, this is my last one and then I'll take a deep breath...lol. When were were living in Toronto 15+ hours from any family member, who should show up on our doorstep at dinnertime but another of my dh's aunt and uncle, just passing thru?? Surely they could have found time on their 15 hour trip to give us a heads up they'd be stopping over for dinner. Thank goodness for pizza delivery!!

Okay, I'll stop now...that's for letting me vent : ) I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. My dh doesn't get why it's such a big deal.

Glad I'm not the only one.

One day woke up early morning, the day before was a terrible day my son spend most of theday in a bad mood, fuzzy, whiney, and clingy, so I didn't get much done, kitchen was a mess, dishes everywhere pile up in the sink, toys all over the living room and other kind of messes, the bedrooms undone, everything horrible, at the end of the day though trying to put my son to sleep, I fell to sleep with him. Next morning, woke up early like i mention before, and surprise, my parents unannounced, ringing the doorbell, (that's a common thing though, they do it all the time!!! annoying!!!!) I opened the door couldn't even get myselft to give them a hug, I hadn't shower (since the day before awwwggghhh),and then other than coming unannounced, my mother starts critizing everything in a really bad way and saying look at the kitchen, you need to start cleaning more often. I felt like screaming, I guess it was my lucky day!!!!!huh.
thanks venting.
