I dont know what to do

Ok, Sky is a wonderful dog. She is good to the boys, listens and so on.
The only problem is the potty thing. She takes forever to go to the bathroom when she does go outside. Half the time she does it in my house. I take her out every 2 hours if not every hour.
I just can't keep doing this because I am alone and this means I have to leave the boys alone in the home to do this, which I do not feel is safe.
I think the people before me never trained her or didnt care to. She was in a crate all the time from what I saw. I refuse to cage an animal.
They told me she was potty trained, but that just does not seem to be the truth.
Any suggestions?

How old is the dog?? If it is very old..I am not sure if you will be able to break her. Is your yard fenced in? Maybe if it is not you can buy a kennel to put her in for 30 mins or so..so you don't have to stay with her. If you have some extra money you could pay a dog trainer to do it....I am sure a dog trainer would have some kind of tricks that I do not know about.. Or you could try looking some tips up on the internet. Sorry I couldn't be much help! Good Luck!

Sky is about 1 1/2 years old. I dont think she was taught when she was a puppy.
I have read on the internet some tips, but none that will work my situation, more for puppies.
I do not have a fenced yard, but I am going to have Chris put up the chain outside.
The problem is, she wants to take 10-20 minutes to go and I dont have that much time. So after about5-10 I take her back in and then she goes.
Thanks again.
Hey Mel!
Mel,
sorry you are still dealing with this, but it may take awhile. I know a few people who have gotten "older" dogs from a previous home, and have had potty problems as well. Sometimes it can be because they were stuck outside and alone, and are afraid to go out, or it can be that they just arent used to the new life yet. You mentioned your yard isnt fenced, can you put out a really long rope for the dog? Try making a nice area for it, with food, water, and a blanket in a shady place, and see if it (sorry, I forget if it was a boy or girl lol) will get used to being out there for short periods of time, so it can do it's business?
I dont know any advise for you, other than training a puppy, but that's of little use to you lol!

I am going to start putting her out in the morning when I dont have time to walk her and then walk her outside during the day.
I think this might work and help her learn to go outside and not inside.
I was told to contain her inside one area until she is trained. So I am letting her in the diningroom and kitchen area where there is tile.
As my own personal experience and feelings.. I would NOT chain the dog. Buy one of those 6'x4' kennels and put that outside. The dog will be safer and so will people. Dogs can get really funny when on a chain, esp. if other dogs, etc come up to them and they feel they can't get away. I REALLY would not suggest a tie-out or chain for any dog.
