Belle turns 2 on May 31, the average person wouldn't plan it out now. I had a talk with dh tonight. Basically, I want a small simple party. And short... Dh agrees, BUT....with the way our family is, to just have imidiate family, both side equal over 65 people. WHAT DO WE DO???? We dont have the money or the desire to do this. Oh my, it's going to be her baptism party all over again. 150-160 people at a catered event. I can't and will not do it!!!! We cant afford it, and even if we could, I STILL WOULDN'T!
What do I do? I can only think of throwing 4 different parties, one for my family, one for dh's family & friends, one for my other family (my parents are divorced) and one for our friends.
Thats way too much. its stupid. I can't deal with this. dh's sister and dad called today telling us they have family flying in from Chicago for her b-day...what the hell??? I've never met these people. They weren't at my wedding, and I thought his parents invited half the continent!
Please help ladies, I will go crazy. I need chat.

Lesley,
I hear ya!
"I need chat."
LOL Lesley!!!
I wouldn't do it personally... I'd say grandparents only or forget it.
If you absolutely have to do something... go to the park and tell everyone that it's a potluck. If they want to eat they have to bring a dish. I have a great recipe for a jello cake that you can make and serve right from the pan to cut costs and keep from having to order a cake. Maybe 4 or 5 of these, some gallons of koolaid, and some inexpensive plates & napkins (no need for anything special... she'll get plenty spoiled with all the presents).
Either that or tell them if they want a big party then they can pay for it ;o)
here's the recipe.... it sound wierd, but it's sooooooooooooo yummy!!!
I've also substituted chocolate cake mix instead of yellow, raspberry jello instead of strawberry, raspberry soda instead of strawberry, and chocolate pudding instead of vanilla... mmmmmmm...
STRAWBERRY JELLO CAKE
Printed from COOKS.COM
1 (6 oz.) box strawberry Jello
1 can strawberry soda or Big Red
1 (6 oz.) box vanilla pudding
1 (8 oz.) container Cool Whip
1 1/2 c. milk
Hey Lesley,
I feel for you honey!

Hey Lesley, I feel for ya! I agree with Desiree, just have it at a park. If anything a birthday party is about the kids, so maybe invite just only those with kids and immediate family and grandparents. Just have something simple and easy like hot dogs and everyone build their own. If you dont want to go through the hassle with food for plenty just have cake and ice cream like the way parties use to be and maybe keep it short not a very long party so that way people wont be flying in from who knows where...lol.

thanks everyone,
I don't know what to do yet, after being up most of the night thinking about this, I still don't know what to do.
Maybe we should sneak off for the weekend lol! and avoid the whole thing!
thanks again
actually that's not a bad idea...
tell them you won't even be here because you're taking a family vacation for her birthday ;o)
Lesley I think asking you and Dh to host a party of 150-160 people for a 2nd birthday is just too much! Good Lord I hope you are saving for her wedding!!!!
I say invite what you can afford and feel comfortable with. If someone else would like to host it and will pay then sit back and enjoy!
