Hi, I need some information about "Broadband" internet connection.
Hi, Rhonda! It sounds like that deal for $29.95 is a great deal! Is that an introductory price, so it'll go up in 3 or 6 months? (Something you definitely have to watch for with phone and Internet deals.) A 3 Mbps is really fast! If you like to surf a lot, or play any online games or watch movies or download things, a 3 Meg connection is definitely fast enough. Cable is tough because it's tied to cable TV, so you share the lines - part TV, part Internet. And it's more expensive. Broadband Internet is also called DSL. It uses your phone line, but doesn't tie it up. It's like having cable Internet in that you can use the phone while you're online, but it's cheaper because it uses existing wires rather than the company putting in tons of new wires for Cable. (I hope I'm making sense.) DSL is often faster because it's dedicated, and it's cheaper because it's tied to your phone line. Like I said, check into whether the $29.95/month price is an intro price or if that's the true price. (No price increases in a few months, after the "honeymoon" period.) Also, is the modem included or is that a different price, too? A DSL modem is different from a Cable modem, but they plug into the same place in your computer. You will get phone filters to put in with a DSL connection, which filters the DSL computer signals away from your regular telephone, so you can use them both at the same time without any interference on your telephone.
The best phone and Internet company I've ever found is Qwest. They service mostly the Western part of the country, but they're awesome!!! (No, I don't work for them.) I hope this helps! Please reply if you have any more questions, or if I just confused you more. Good luck!
Hi Kristin...Thanks for responding...
~ I asked if it was a premotional (sp?)
You are so funny, Rhonda! I'm sorry I can't help you, because we have cable too. . . And I'm pissed at our cable service right now, because it's been acting up over the past few days and knocking us off-line periodically. We have a tech coming in the next few hours sometime (probably right in the middle of dinner, LOL!!).
Sofia
It's definitely as fast as cable. Most of the speeds are the same (up to 1.5 meg, up to 3 meg, etc.) That sounds like a great deal then!
Good luck!
