how in the world are we going to make a 12 hour drive to Atlanta for the funeral when we have to go, when my kids go berserk riding in the car for 30 minutes?!?!?!?
I need some ideas to keep a 3 year old and a 6 year old entertained. Any suggestions?
Cold medicine... j/k..... thats something my ex MIL would do... anyway i dont suppose that you have a dvd in ur car? i dont but it would help...maybe buy a portable one. i would try and drive when nap would fall in... there is 3 hours there for mine... lunch in the car... munchies..... toys ... color books.... ummm i will post again if i think of more. ~ Shannon
We bought a DVD player for the car and it's wonderful ! Also, snacks, art sets, books, their favorite toys, and yay for naps !!!! We usually find a park about every three hours or so to let the kids run around for a bit...and for pit stops !
Well I guess I do have some experience in this department since we have crossed the country and back when we move. I love the portable DVD player. Watch a movie and then it is time to go to the bathroom. Watch another one and its time to eat. You get the picture. We always have snacks when we are on the road. Small toys and maybe some special toys along the way as you progress. It may sound like it will be awful but you can make it fun. Good Luck!!!
All my nieces and nephews have their own music device of some sort. Depending on their age some have an ipod, cd player and the youngest have little fisher price tape players. I didn't think this would work but we had a 24 hr drive last year and between the music (with individual earphones of course!) and a portable DVD player they were content! This is a great post with summer vacations coming up!

Does anyone know if the portable DVD player can be used on planes also?
This has probably already been suggested, but when we drove from Virginia to Washington, we bought a portable DVD player for Caroline. Lots of movies.
edited to add:
Mandy, portable dvd players can be used on airplanes, but there is nowhere to plug them in so they rely on battery life, which for most is only enough for one movie not longer than 2 hours.
thanks everyone! portable dvd players seems to be the way to go... I just don't know if I can afford to go get one right now. We'll already have to fork out money for gas, oil change, new tires, and hotel & food while we are there. Then again, I may not be able to keep my sanity otherwise LOL.
anyone know of an inexpensive one that come with a car adapter?
Desiree, I'm adding my ditto for the dvd player. I must say though, that the batteries suck on those and we've never got an entire movie to play all the way through. I'd defiantly get a power pack or adapters for the cigarette lighter in the car.
ITA with the portable DVD player. We have one, and really appreciate it!! Also, so you know the little hand-held video games work in those, too. Like the ones that plug into the t.v.? They have lots of cool ones now - I even have a Disney one that the girls can't wait to use when we go on vacation in a couple of weeks. I think there are Dora and other like that out there too!! Buy a bunch of DVD's that they haven't seen yet, a couple of sets of headphones and you are good to go!!
Hugs, hon. I know this is a tough time. I'm praying for y'all, and especially for Kyle and his family.
Well, I definitely wouldn't do it all in one day. I'd have one overnight in there.
We have these bags that go over the front seats and hang down the back. I pack them with brand new crayons, coloring books, notebooks, books, snacks, etc.
