Shannon, we've all been there - or are there, LOL! Couple of things I've noticed, when the t.v. is off, there is less fighting. Strange, isn't it? Also, when I give them something "new" to do, it really keeps them busy. Here are some ideas (I can't remember how old your kiddos are, so forgive me if they are not age appropriate, LOL!)
Bake cookies together
go to the library, sign up for the summer reading program
take a picnic lunch
save all empty boxes (cereal, crackers, pudding, mac'ncheese, etc.) and create a grocery store. I even bought play money to go with this - they LOVE playing with these
play-doh ~even tho its messy, I just designate a spot in the basement and put down an old vinyl tablecloth to play on. They will do this for quite some time as well.
Collect various craft projects and supplies as you see them (clearance items are fantastic). When you notice those little restless boogers acting up, pull these out. Yeah, its messy, but its fun, creative and TIME CONSUMING!!
Set up a tent or create one out of blankets. My girls use this for many, many things - reading, coloring, etc. There was even a stuffed animal wedding in their tent yesterday, LOL!
Go to the garden center and pick out plants to put in your garden. They can help be responsible for watering, weeding, etc. The girls LOVE this job!!
I'm sure this is a start, and you probably do many of these things, but I find that if I spend some time with them, get them going on a project, they are good for a while, I get stuff done and then I have more patience and understanding.
Good Luck - I know some days are tougher than others!!
Hugs,
Wendy
