I took the plunge!!

Guess what I did today? I'm kind of in shock. . .

I secretly bought my DH a brand new extended cab pick-up truck for Christmas! It is parked in my sister's garage until Christmas morning, when they're going to drive it over here so I can surprise him.

OMGosh that was a lot of money!! I'm praying and keeping my fingers crossed that Michael doesn't check into the savings account balance. He will definitely notice that huge a deficit!

So I did this huge act of stupidity? Love? Kindness? Appreciation? Foolishness? Because he recently announced that he "always wanted" a truck to "haul things" (What things he's planning to haul, I'm not exactly sure. Makes me a tad nervous). When he told me this, he was on a roll searching for trucks. It's about all he talked about for a few days. Internet searches, checking them out in truck lots, etc. Then I burst his Happy Little Bubble and told him NO WAY was I driving a truck, he didn't need a truck--we have the minivan and his car, it's an extravagance, etc. I think I really disappointed him, and I've felt guilty ever since. He didn't give up though. I know he was still searching for trucks on the sly. But he couldn't buy one if I wasn't on board with it. That's just the nature of our marriage that we have to agree on big purchases like that (unless, of course, they are gifts for the other).

So I mulled it over for the past few weeks. He is a great dad and amazing husband and he works very hard and I love him with all my heart and like nothing better than to make him happy. There have been so many times in our relationship that he has gone out of his way to surprise me with loving things. So I solicited the help of my BIL, who took the day off to help me today (nice BIL! He's living vicariously through Michael, LOL!). I took the plunge and did it!! WHEW! I have never spent that much $$ by myself in one sitting in my life! I can't help but feel kind of weak-kneed. . . I just saw that money run through my fingers!!

So that is my Christmas present too. That's all I want, in all honesty: Just to see the look on his face Christmas morning when he finds his brand new truck in our driveway. He is going to drop dead of a heart attack! I can hardly wait!

Wendy, your gifts to your DH sound wonderful. I have never done anything like this before!! This is a big huge deal!

Yes, we have it all worked out: My BIL is going to drive the truck over Christmas morning, with Maria (my sister) following. We're setting a time of 11:30 for them to *leave their house* That lets me know to occupy Michael so he doesn't go look out the front of the house or go outside for any reason when I estimate their arrival. Nick will park the truck in our driveway, and get in the car with Maria and her 2 kids, and leave. This is because, knowing Michael and what his reaction is likely to be, and my reaction to his reaction, we decided that this is a very personal moment. Kind of like the times he's given me something very personal and expensive, like jewelry. He doesn't generally do that in front of everyone. More a private thing between us. Don't know if that makes sense, but anyway--I figure a truck to Michael is like diamonds to me (trying to think MAN here, LOL!). . . So when Maria and Nick turn the corner off our street, Maria is going to call our house on her cell phone, let it ring once, and hang up. That will signal to me that the truck is in the driveway and I can bring Michael out to see it.

I'm very excited!!

As for the bow, I asked the dealership today, and they don't have any. But what I'm going to do is get a big thick ribbon, tie it through the 2 front windows and across the cab roof and use the whole spool to make a bow. I'm so not crafty, that Maria is going to help me. Probably Thursday or Friday while Michael's at work.

And yes, of course I will post to you all and let you know as soon as I can how it went! Your my 2nd family! :)

Oh wow Sofia! You're actually going to get that commercial moment where the person comes out and sees the car with a big red bow on top!! (granted it's not a Lexus, because they don't make trucks that I'm aware of) That is so so COOL!

So, details! What make and model and color? Lol, isn't that just like a woman, guys would be asking engine size and horsepower and alloyed rims, and all I care about is asthetic appeal! Lol, MUAH, you's just the sweetest wife aren't you?!
